If he enrolls here in December, he is on scholarship second semester, then becomes eligible to play at semester break next year, to play his year and a half? Is that correct?

If thats the case, it would seem to be a best case scenario for getting the most out of DJs scholarship. That of course assuming its cleared up by semester. If so it would seem we would have an advantage over the other schools whom might not be able to offer a scholarship next semester while sitting out.

Eric Bossi wrote the long and short of McKay leaving Marquette is they wanted to redshirt him because they are deep in the front court this year. Not so next year. From another source, Mckay was scoreless in Marquette's scrimmage. Fans on a Louisville site seems to think there is question if he has to sit out a year. I think we.are correct in he willl not be able to play until 2nd semester next year. Bossi seems to think that also but was a little hesitant in a guarantee.

The 6-4 version of McKay is his younger brother, Jamaar. He is a freshman at Chipola this year.

Let me get this right: McKay is leaving Marquette because he does not want to RS in 2013, but in transferring, he'll not only sit out 2013, but also the 1st semester of 2014?

If Bossi's information is correct (no reason to think that it is), JM may have felt betrayed, lied to, or mislead in the recruiting process.

Just as speculation, I was going to say something similar. It may have less to do with sitting out a year as feeling that what he was told in the recruiting process differed from what happened once he signed in terms of how Marquette planned to use him and his prospects for playing time.

I hope the betrayal theory makes it rounds among top jc recruits. Marquette, like WSU, is a school known for doing well with them.

I'm not doubting the "betrayal theory", but I can't say that Jameel really did his homework at looking at his future team either.

They have all their front line back from last year. 6-8 senior PF/C Gardner who was 2nd in scoring last year (1st in returning players) 4.8 rpg, 6-7 senior F Jamil Wilson 3rd in scoring last year and 4.9 rpg, 6-11 senior C Otule a .634 FG%, and backups 6-7 sophomore F Taylor and 6-6 junior F Anderson who combined for almost 22 mpg.

                          Iowa State Perspective

http://amestrib.com/blog/hines-on-ho...questions.html This article is from an Iowa State perspective but as several others on this board have pointed out our unique scholarship situation may turn out to help us with this kid. Iowa State is not in a position to offer him a scholarship and he would have to pay his own way there and to many of our competition.

Be careful what you accuse a possible recruit of when we just don't know what happened ( I doubt that you meant to do that but it sounded a little like you did). We don't know what the coach or coaches (who knows, it could have just been an assistant), promised him or didn't promise him to get him to sign. I don't know Marquette and I know that Marshall doesn't promise playing time but some coaches do. McKay would be a big time, athletic guy for us.

Easy for anyone to cast stones at the coaching staff of Marquette and, maybe, it's deserved.

Any recruit who highly values immediate playing time needs to evaluate a school's current roster. I'm not saying this was even that important to Jameel. I don't know. It was Trop's post of Eric Bossi who said that they may have wanted him to redshirt due to the depth up front. If a roster of a highly considered school is filled with returning starters, upperclassmen, underclassmen who saw good minutes on a quality team at your position, that should be something important to such a recruit. He may look elsewhere, decide he can beat out current players for playing time, or decide such playing time isn't as important as he first thought after considering all the other factors of the school. He also may decide he'd rather play fewer minutes than RS.

You are right, I'm not accusing him of anything. I think "accuse" is a rather strong connotation for my statement. The key is, until he or the coach actually tells us, we don't know what the situation was and probably will never know. What I do know is that Marquette has a loaded front returning and that posts are being lobbed at the Marquette coaches "accusing" them of possible betrayal, misleading, or lying to a recruit when those things may not even the issue.

The talk on MU's own message board was that the coaches wanted him to switch from the 4 to the 5, which may have been something he wasn't comfortable with, at least in their system.

It could have been an entirely off the court issue for all we know. The fit maybe just wasn't right. Hard to know.
