I have a difficult time in believing that Texas high school basketball is approaching the same level of fan support as football. While high school basketball in Texas has made many strides in improving the level of talent, the support that it receives is small compared to high school football.

It would be an incredible story if it did!

My experience is just based on people I know in the Dallas and San Antonio areas.

I'm sure in more rural (rural by Texas standards, that is) it's still football and then all the other sports, but basketball is getting big from what I've heard from people in those cities.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

As someone that lives in a suburb of Dallas, I can assure you that while basketball is big for those people who pay attention to what is going on, it definitely does not receive the same amount of news coverage as high school football. At tournament time, yes, there is more attention in the media.

However, as you move around the Dallas area, you do not see the same kind of posters, etc., for basketball as you see for high school football.

Kansas has nothing like Texas football! Nothing even close!

Back to recruiting, if Wichita State recruited the number of upper echelon basketball players that the University of Texas recruits, Wichita would go even crazier. However, in Austin, Texas, they do not sell out when they are having a good season. Now, if it were football...

With that being said, I just hope that Wichita State is able to continue to recruit many of the Texas high school players. There are so many down here.

There is no question that basketball is nowhere near football in terms of fans support in Texas, and probably never will be. Where basketball is becoming similar to football is in the number of Division I prospects produced by the state.

I agree with what you say. To put things into perspective, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area population is more than 2 1/2 times that of the whole state of Kansas. The sheer number of basketball players in the state is phenomenal.

What did Paul Sullenthrop say about J T Durley if he played in the City League last year? I think he said that Durley would have been a big deal. Down here, Durley was unknown for the most part, by the general populace.

Kids like Shorter will continue to be the lifeblood of Wichita State for the time being.

To paraphrase Bob Barker, I would say to Turgeon and the other coaches, "Come on down!"

We're the best team on his list buy far, but what's the odds we get this guy to commit here.

Well, we certainly appear to be the frontrunner. I hope that we can wrap him up early.

His list of teams isn't overly impressive but I like what I've read. You just never know how it will go though. If it's based solely off of who the best team is that means we don't have a shot at Barnes.

Although, in your first post, you mentioned that at least at one point, we were the only team he listed as having "high" interest in, so I think there may be other reasons to see ourselves as the frontrunner. Time will tell.

Forgive me again. He's listed as having high interest in Tulane, Ark-LR and Liberty. The 3 other schools he has, or plans on visiting.

According to today's Eagle, he is very high on the Shocks.

And based on his comments, I'm now starting to really doubt our chances of getting Barnes. I know we need to trust the coaches, and so I'm sure Shorter is a good player. But its fairly clear to me that Barnes is on a higher level.
