What do you think the recruits are gonna think of his AAA statement?
They will probably balance it with the literally hundreds of complimentary statements he's made about the fan base in the past. They will also see for themselves the difference between our student section and those of ones like USU. That's what I'm thinking anyway.

they'll probably believe him if they visited during shocker madness - an event most teams use to show off how great their fans are and the atmosphere they generate...but we can't get half an arena for it

I bet most of them decide to walk on at USU b/c of that comment.

I think he was just really impressed with USU's crowd and paying them a compliment. In my opition, people are blowing a poorly chosen phrase out of proportion.
USU did appear impressive. It looked like they have Wichita beat w/ geographic scenery too. There is nothing wrong with providing that university w/ the many compliments it deserves. From the crowd, team, tribute and involvement here, its all been 1st class.
A compliment doesn't have to come at the expense of our fans. It has been a real negative 2 weeks around here. Our team has blown an opportunity.
While USU did do some things better, WSU's fans have been loyal and supportive. I don't think. Marshall has been judged and supported by his product on the floor but a belief we have in the future of this program. The lack of inspiration is spilling over to the fans. WSU and its fan base has come through as was probably promised. Two slaps by our coach in a week is not a good thing. WSU fans may very well lead the league in tourney attendance again. It is time for Marshall to regroup and find some inspiration to finish this year.

You must be new around here aren't you? Let me guess, you've been a Shocker fan going all the way back to the glory days of 2006. Do a little research before you try and call somebody out.

Okay people five pages of back & forth gibberish is insane. Having read all of the posts in this and the original AAA thread several common facts can be asserted.

The Aggie fans are awesome and it's one of the best venues in college basketball.

HCGM's choice of words, as complimentary as they are toward USU could have been phrased differently.

                  >99% of the "regular" posters (myself included) want HCGM and this team to succeed.

HCGM is a smart man and his off the cuff temperament is refreshing but may lead to the need for a revised statement of remarks to be posted.

The Roundhouse is a wonderful college environment.

This discussion is not healthy given the events of the past couple of weeks and the need to immediately rebound.

We all enjoy and appreciate Sulley's reporting and Shockwaves blog.

                  Go Shocks!!!!

I agree. And with that, I am going to stop posting in this thread.

I've been away and missed the AAA comment and aftermath. The comment itself and the timing on the heels of what many view as lackluster performances in front of sell out Koch Arena crowds are unfortunate. From what I've seen on here, were I advising Coach Marshall, I'd strongly suggest he clarify that his comment was not intended to denigrate the WSU fans. Maybe he already has?

Whether he meant it as a knock against Shocker fans, or not, (and it sure can't be viewed as a compliment to WSU fans) this is the kind of statement that will be viewed similarly to Turgeon's "at this level" comments long after Marshall is gone. But I doubt coaches lose much sleep over that.

Any plans to sell yellow and black "AAA" tee shirts?

#1 it doesnt matter what Paul says. People are already butt hurt about it and even if they step back and think rationally about it they will still never let it go.

The inferiority complex of people of this city is VERY upsetting. Very ridiculous and also VERY amusing.

I mean just this past week we had a caller on the verge of tears beg Coach Marshall to let him know what he could do to get him to stay at the school.

                            Now with that said...

I #### love Utah State well done.
ASM: No inferiority complex with me. It was a silly comment for him to make. You don't need to belittle your own program in trying to give credit to another. I'm sure that's not what he meant to do, but that's how it seems IMO.
Look, some coaches, programs, and fans don't like the "mid-major" moniker, and I don't like the AAA reference. I don't live in Wichita, and I've got 3 schools I attended and root for all 3, but I bleed for the Shox, and I've always been extremely impressed by the amount of Shocker support. To paraphrase former HCMT: "WSU is a major program playing in a mid-major conference."

I'm a huge GM supporter, and will just chalk it up to an off the cuff remark that didn't mean any harm. He'll learn from it.
HCMT was better at coach speak.
Yep ,,, al 3 phrases that we got so tired of hearing ,Over and over , and Over ,, all the while Bitching and complaining that we wen't getting any real info or feelings from him, about the team and his thoughts.
BTW He's still sayin the same things at to this day, about his current team.
But hey we dint have to worry about him sayin the wrong thing (in some peoples mind) now did we

I'm not going to read all 5 pages of this thread...but I will say, our student section looks little league compared to what I saw on TV last night. In fact in watching KSU, KU and most other schools who think they have awesome students...they've got nothing on Utah St. That was an awesome environment. Clever chants, new and inventive ways to get the players attention. All we can come up with is "You still suck"... Congrats to them, I'll be chearing for them in March.
