"Can't" or chooses not to? Nothing better to do?

Any evidence for your claims are you just recklessly tossing religious tenets and moral codes around to explain away their student section's superiority?

Sorry, but I detected a hint of religious bigotry. And even though it's against one I don't subscribe to, it's still uncalled for.

Besides, something tells me that "Wild Bill" doesn't exactly fit the stereotypical Mormon mold.

    • WSU crowds will never be what KSU crowds are? By that do you mean down to 3500 and outdrawn by the women's program????

I've been to plenty of games at both. K-State crowds are good right now, but fans there are very fickle. Season ticket numbers do not tell the story at K-State.

KU students are very active, but there are a TON of hand-sitters at Allen. A ton. I was there last year against A&M and the people in the lower rows up to about row 10 never stood up. There are more fans and it may be that Koch's acoustics are better for crowd noise, but I have never had that ear-rattling experience at either KU or KSU. Ahearn was so much better.

      • Success breeds large and noisy crowds especially when a large part of the arena is reserved for students. When we were bad for an extended time students quit going and that really hurt KSU crowds. Won't hurt WSU as much since they have such a small student crowd and older fans tend to keep going so they can keep their seats for when success returns. Doesn't hurt to have 500K population either. Students are there 4-6 years and gone. KSU crowds are back to where they were in the 70's at Ahearn when I was in school. Loud, creative and being noticed nationally. When Mussberger says it's the best student section he's seen all season and the Gameday crew agrees it means something. I have been to a few games at WSU and the crowds are very good considering the lack of students but not like Ahearn was or Allen was before they moved the students and no where near what the Bram is like now. Give Marshall a break!

I wish Mrs. HCGM would just ignore this site.
You can call anyone out (Lutz), but also be okay with being called out yourself.
Our fans can improve, so can our game day sports staff. Lets find a new way to use the video board- freshen things up. Been to a college game and they play some 90's song where everyone starts jumping up and down. They have alumn and local celebrities on their board jumping- old and young, just an idea.

Student body- GET CREATIVE! Throw streamers, confettie. Do a little research on opponents, isn't that what facebook is for? Big kid on first row- where a halter top when they are shooting free throws, that kind of stuff.

Let's look back a year now and see this as the spark that ignited a new atmosphere at the Chuck!

Can't recall the game... someone help me out here.

            • 1. When can we get our own satirical newsletter? There should be enough qualified people on Shockernet to produce one that has fewer spelling, grammatical and punctutation errors than the USU one. (I do like their disclaimer at the bottom...)

              2. On a good night, the atmosphere in CKA is major-league-callup caliber, but those USU fans are maniacs. Not saying we don't have that potential, too, but some zanies need to escape the student section and spread that youthful zeal around. It's loud in CKA, but it's not CRAZY-loud.

              3. HCGM's had a bad week. Perhaps he misspoke, perhaps he's trying to light a fire under the fans...perhaps he thinks the atmosphere could still go all the way to "11".

              4. When I first read the quote, I thought he was talking about the auto club...middle age taking it's toll on me, I guess.

I have to admit that I am a Triple-A member myself.

I am in full agreement with the 1st part, except for the fact that WSU fans aren't really as creative as USU students.

At my best I'm only Double-A; however if things continue to slide, I'll have a 'Major League' heart attack.

                        • Good grief. More fragile little tulips have come up in this thread than a Dutch phonebook.

NEWSFLASH: USU did make Koch arena look AAA. No reasonable person could disagree.

All of the chants in Koch were stale when they were first used 6 years ago, and they've been used constantly since. The base level junk like "you still suck" might have been funny in junior high, but it's never been funny in a college game. Throw "balls" on top of it, and you've got something that was left on the cutting room floor of the Beavis and Butthead show in their final and most desperate season.

Stop your fricken crying and do something about it.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

This has to be the first time I've ever seen alcohol, sex, and drugs used as an excuse for being NOT creative.

Here is some things the athletic department could do:

                              1. Engage the Greek community to get organized. They could easily combine their cheer practice with their weekly get togethers.

                              2. Engage the student resident halls to fill the student section.

(maybe they have and the these two populations don'tcare).

                              3. Get cheer leaders who actually take charge and try to organize the crowd. This group IMO are really weak from years past.

                              4. Start the tradition of standing for defense out of every timeout.

                                Good ideas.

Crowd issues cannot all be blamed on the crowd alone. There's been little or no effort towards new creative ideas pretty much all the way around.
