The good news, such as it is, is that by the end of the season this is not likely to look like as bad a loss as it appears right now. Drake has figured it out, and they way they're playing now, they have as good a chance as anyone, except possibly IllSt, to finish third behind UNI and WSU -- and who would have thought that a month ago? I could easily see them finishing 11-7 in the MVC and being the team no one wants to meet in St. Louis.

Meanwhile, as others have said, WSU really, really needs to get the inside guys to assert themselves. No point in having size and athleticism if they don't use it.
Not to be an ass (ok, maybe I'm being an ass but it's not directed at you per se) but Drake sucks. I don't care if they've "figured it out". They aren't going to beat anybody, and the way we laid down today we are nobody. They are a losing team, with a losing record. They've never been any good, they're not going to be good anytime soon and it is a 2 bit program that only knows how to lose and couldn't win a game against a big time program if the programs life depended on it.

They shot the ball out of their collective asses today. Congrats. They played against a bunch of kids that were way too full of themselves on a day where no effort combined with nothing going right for WSU ended with a joke of a finish. Again, nothing against Drake, but they suck and they whipped our ass.
Bingo. They didn't do anything that made you scream "WOW". We played like garbage. Anybody could've kicked us today. Remember people, Drake is a team that lost to SIU-Edwardsville and IUPUI. They were a 200 RPI team going into today. They suck. And them going on a winning streak in this conference makes the whole league look like garbage.

We lost to a high school-like team today. Why? Because at this point, we're a middle school-like team.
      Deuces Valley.
      ... No really, deuces.

      • ...and K-State is about to lose to OSU on K-State's home court; K-State, rated #9, for now. It happens.

Going into this season, I think everyone believed we would be NIT bound - if we get really lucky - NCAA. It isn't over yet, and what we are looking for is improvement. NCAA we be great this season, especially since Clevin will not be back next season.

He deserves it for trying to carry the team like he does.

        • Clevin was my Shocker MVP last Season and the same thus-far this Season!!!!!!! We are a MUCH better team when he is On the court.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

          • This was a bad loss today, and it will bite us in the you know what. It could turn a good season into a mediocre one. This makes the Illinois State game a MUST win.

The Shox have got to figure out their road woes. Teams are whispering across the MVC tjat all you have to do is get Hannah in foul trouble, and you whip the Shox.

How about some other team members scoring some points besides Durley, Hannah, Murry, and Hatch???

They still haven't figured out how to win on an off day.

Here's the deal. Coach Marshall will watch this game and "huddle up" with our beloved Shocks. During the post-game show, HCGM wanted to come right home and practice NOW. He did not want to even wait until tomorrow's scheduled practice. The Shocks were 'asleep at the wheel' today and tomorrow is going to be a rude awakening to 'right this Shocker Ship,' baby!!!!!!!
Well I did give myself a timeout from here for a couple of hours during and after the game, and I'm down 1 laptop to show for it. 20 games into a 32+ game season is no time to have a breakdown like this.

I broke down film from Tuesday. The guys played with SO much focus, desire and enthusiasm it wasn't funny. If we'd shot the ball well, not great but just good for the wide open looks we had, we would have destroyed UNI.

OBVIOUSLY I spoke too soon about leadership because how we go from that effort on Tuesday to the absolute disaster I just witnessed is unfathomable.

I suggested we would win 23 games this season because THAT'S how much talent I believed we had (and have), that's the kind of schedule we have and that was BEFORE I realized how improved some guys were. And we've had no major injuries. We lose Clevin and it's Katy bar the door.

Absolutely, Prez. The last thing WSU needs is a starting time before sundown. Not sure why, but it's been that way for a while, and it's a good thing their conference champs figured out how to play during the day, or else that run to the round of 16 would never have happened.
No offense to anybody, but give me a break.

Drake had to to get out of bed this morning as well. And I seriously doubt that WSU bussed into town this morning and had to quickly stretch before taking the floor.

It's called college basketball. You sleep in a different bed, you eat different food, you shoot at different rims. Every other team in the Valley does it 9 times a year, and it's not an acceptable excuse.

That being said... a friendly reminder that I give all of my friends who like point spreads and money lines...

Ditto. I usually watch televised games twice, but I've watched the UNI game 3 times.

From a purely basketball standpoint, watch the first 20 possessions of the UNI game and compare the ball movement to Drake or any other mediocre game. The difference is breathtaking.

Pop. Pop. Pop. Into the post, out of the double team, skip passes, swinging the ball, making the defense work.

I know that college ball is a game of runs and that defense tends to dictate tempo, but I firmly believe we are one of the 20 best teams in the country if we can adopt the tempo and ball movement that we displayed in that game.

                  • FSF picked us to win 21 overall and end up around 3rd-4th in the Valley. Actually, we seem to be at the crossroads on a forked road with a few paths to chose our own destiny. What will 'the between the ears psyche' of this team now be?

We really need to beat Illinois State to start with. We can ill-afford to do a nose-dive like 2006. We need some Valley Teams to beat N. Iowa as we did, and then we need to defeat them on the road. We can't expect to win on the road with a lackadaisical effort and a lackluster focus. We really need to establish our inside game henceforth from this moment on. I really thought we could gain an advantage with our inside game in the Valley. Thusfar, we do mostly fine at home inside and seem content on the road to start jacking up wholesale 3's. We will have to work from the inside-out to go where we long to go.

                    • I guess I don't care who beats or loses to UNI. We have to win OUR games and we have to play them one at a time.

Are you freakin' kidding me? OK-State is helluva lot better than Edwardsville and IUPUI. If Drake was 14-4 and had an RPI of 29 and beat us at home, that loss would be easier to swallow than us losing to current RPI 187 Drake. This team is not NCAA tourney worthy if they can't beat teams they're supposed to on the road.

I didn't mean my post as an excuse to the team physically or mentally, or whatever. It shouldn't matter the time of the game, they should be ready to play. I meant it more along some astrological terms as in, there is some sort of extra-dimensional force in the afternoon games that makes us play like crap. With exception to the games in the 2006 NCAA tournament.

I just hate afternoon games because it seems like more often than not, I'm pissed off an entire day as opposed to a few hours until I can sleep off the anger.

No worries, it wasn't directed at you, and I know what you mean.

It was more about the number of posts and threads directed at externalities like refs, and the fact that I have yet to see a thread dedicated to the calls and breaks that go our way. I saw at least 2 today that raised my eyebrows, just like I do every game. In my opinion, while the refs may have unfortunately influenced an outcome (they always do), there hasn't been a discernable bias.
