Demetric is WAY ahead of Kenny offensively and Kenny is WAY ahead of Demetric on the defensive end.

It is a tough call. But, Demetric is a BALLA.
If this Hannah “situation” works itself out…I reflexively side with D over O. Although, Williams sounded impressive.
He was very poised for a freshman. Very fast when driving the lane, and was still able to finish even when bouncing off of bigger players....ala Hannah.
All positive especially the poise part (and I was impressed); but how did his defense look? I have a low tolerance for players who can’t or won’t play defense – for many reasons. In my book it is inexcusable to play poor D because it has more to do with head and heart at this level.

    • I was pretty disappointed with all facets of the defense - from guarding the perimeter.. to, at times, horrid interior defense.

      • I also agree. The team is OK. In fact, it looks like we will have a freshman that might contribute much more than I thought any of them would. I'm just bummed about Hannah.

Maggie, the defensive comparison is due to physical ability, not effort. Demetric puts himself in good position, has a real good court awareness and seems to communicate ok for a freshman. He just isn't as big, strong, or long as Kenny. He is going to get pushed around for awhile.

Kenny is going to give people fits with his speed, quickness and arm length. The problem is, once he gets the ball, he essentially has to dunk or lay it up to score.

If Demetric is in bounds, he is in range.

            • Hell, this is the NCAA we are talking about here. They may suspend him all this season and next season just to make an example out of him.

Did I mention how much I hate the NCAA?

                • KM did hit a shot from about 10' out in the lane. It was one of the ugliest shots I've ever seen, but it went in. It looked more like it slipped off his hand when he jumped than anything I would describe as a shot, but he seemed to know what he was doing.

I was a bit surprised that KM didn't find a way to the hoop. Slashing seems to be his strength, but it wasn't there tonight.

Really? I think I only have to miss one or two games due to my schedule and I think one of them is an away game I can record. My schedule is pretty full too. I'll have to double check...

Most of WSU's home games are on Wednesdays or Saturdays.

I thought high school basketball consisted mostly of Tuesdays and Fridays..

As for Williams -- I don’t consider that "bad" D – I consider that being over matched in certain situations. If the fundamentals, effort and heart are solid….together, of course, with raw athletic ability – Williams won’t get any grief from me unless I don’t see improvement.

KM, in my judgment, should focus on D – perfect it and continue to work on his outside shot. If KM is a serious pest on D, distributes the ball well on O, I can live with the lack of an outside game….for now….when Hannah is available. I consider Hannah, despite his size, solid all around.

                            • Regarding Hannah.

This is what I was told:

                              1. Processing error.
                              2. Hannah not at fault.
                              3. Based upon games played last year, he is inelgible for some games this year.
                              4. Games played last year x 10% = games inelgible to play this year.
                              5. I know this sounds dumb, but Hannah has to sit out 3.5 games. I suppose the Shockers played 35 games last year.

I have no idea, whether the Newman game counts as sit-out 1.

I imagine my information is at least 4th hand. It did come from a big booster though.
