  • Exhbition: WSU vs Newman

Here is what I will be looking for in tonights game.

    1. Win the game in convincing fashion. Winning is attitude. If you can't do it against the Newmans and UMKC of the world, you are going to struggle in the MVC.

    2. Outside shooting - has it gotten better? Shock have to shoot better than 32% from the 3pt.

    3. Defense - is this team more athletic and able to defend the passing lanes and able to create points?

    4. Where is Stutz, Ellis and Kyles in their development. Probably a stretch to make any big judgements from this game beside if they don't show up here they are likely to struggle against the Pittsburgh/Texas/CU type teams.

    5. Newcomers - who looks like they are going to emerge to be a contributor.

Here's the deal. This summer of watching some scrimmages was proof that we are going to be better this Season. The Valley will also be improved so we will have to stay on task. Tonight will indeed be interesting. Coach Potter is a class act and has many newcomers. Coach Marshall continues to bring in some very impressive recruits. Below are some other observations as I see it thus far.

        1. David Kyles really had a solid summer. I believe there will be games and situations that both Toure and Kyles will be in the game together and in time they may both be starters.

        2. Hannah was my MVP last Season and I think he will be our leader.

        3. Graham did drain many 3's down the Hatch this summer and is a tireless worker. How will his shot be with 10,000 plus watching?
He will get starts but what a great spark to bring in as a 6th man?

        4. J.T. and Garrett will make each other better and fight for playing time. Both look improved and stronger this summer. Stutz legs are stronger and won't be pushed around so much in the block this year! Get mean Garrett!! J.T. worked hard to improve and I think he will be a big help.

        5. Number O and Gabe will improve our PF position. Will Ellis be more consistent now that he is healthy? Stay tuned. Even when his shot is off, he defends and rebounds. Gabe could very well be a missing link much needed but we will watch that closely and not jump the gun on expectations. One man close to the Program told me that Gabe will be " a difference maker " this very Season. You like?

        6. Kenny will make steals, sweet passes, and his share of Freshman mistakes. However, what an athlete!!! It will be hard to keep him off the floor and he will create havoc to our opponets. Who will redshirt between Hamilton, Tyler, and Williams? Time will tell. They are all keepers to our rising Program!!!

        7. Lastly, my sources tell me that we beat K-State. Last Season, my sources told me that K-State had their way with us. We will again take care of business at 21st and Hillside this Season. Last Season, the 0-6 start in the Valley was followed by a much better finish. I still think we will win at least 21 games and land around 3-4 in the Valley of Death. Is it possible to top that? You bet, but we will have to be much tougher on the road this Season to do just that. This eternal optimist feels it "in my ole bones" that this team will be better than advertised. Didn't I say that every other Season early on? Hmmm! Well I really mean it this time. Can you dig it? Let's get this Shocker Party started!!!!!!!
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Even though this is a meaningless game, is anyone else excited to finally see some Shocker basketball this year?

Dinner at Barn'ards and a Shocker game.

I think that fits the bill for our 22nd anniversary.

                    She even likes that idea.

Is there a Shocker Soundoff today or is it being saved for the "real deal"?
