I think at first it was. KU said no so they tried to get it done in Lawrence. The answer was still no from KU.

I think most KU fans would agree, sub. And if you haven't seen a Gene meltdown after a loss to KU, count yourself blessed. A friend of mine used to work in the WSU AD, and we happened to be in Lawrence for a KU-WSU game about 20 years ago.

It was something to behold, I have to tell ya.
I can probably understand the meltdown. It definitely wouldn't be a 'good' loss.

Hello?!! Have you not read this thread? It has been said already that Turgeon was willing to go to KU -- one and done, and the Chickenhawks backed out of it. Any other excuses?

          :posterwsu:
that isn't true. I specifically remember Turg saying he wanted a home and home and rejecting what I believe was a 3 for 1 offer from KU.
Did he say that to your face?

          You heard wrong.

I've never seen that documented but that isn't what the discussion is about anyway. There could have been a lot of reasons to turn down ESPN for a one time deal, scheduling conflicts, number of games etc. We are talking about scheduling a series between the schools. I don't know what the reason would have been but I'm going to doubt it was a team coming off of 3 elite eights and two final fours in the last 4 years being scared of a team that at that time hadn't been in the NCAAs in about a decade.

                  • Note: During the early fall of 2007:
Turg said in his radio show that he was miffed at a state school who challenged him to sign up ESPN for a single game. He was told that if he could pull it off and if he was willing to play one game on the opponents home floor, the game would be played.

Certainly, the first mistake they made was to challenge Turgeon.

Of course ESPN was interested, former player on his old home floor, coaching a school in the same state that had done *Battle* with the coach's alma mater in the past. That's TV Gold, sports fans.

Turg got the dates arranged with all parties involved and "the school" turned it down. He said something to the effect of, I thought that having some connection there would have helped get this done and expressed frustration that even the sweetest deal possible was turned down.

My bad, would almost two decades have been a better response? Am I missing an appearance between 1988 and 2006 somewhere?

I guess you answered with the 'combo'..

If you're trying to be cute, you're not. The proposed meeting between the two schools was scheduled to happen in November 2006. Let's see if that helps.

I really hope you aren't that stupid.

                            • holy cow

Wow, i've never scene a thread about KU last this long. But holy cow, there's alot being said in this one. All's I have to throw in is that Kansas, having 3 D1 schools is sort of crazy. I've got a friend from Nebraska whom I talk to everynow and then, and one time he made the comment "It's so wierd down here, you guys have so much arguement and loyalty over 3 big schools. In Nebraska, everybody roots for one school (big red)." There's alot that can be said about funding our 3 big schools. Segwick county is a high population area and is capable of helping support a D1 school with lots of oppertunities for students. KSU, to me at least, is the odd ball, located in the middle of nowhere, and 10 minutes from Ft. Riley, it deffenitly has to be the Kansas oddity. Then KU, located near K.C. also has lots of oppertunities. I actually mentioned this to someone lastnight, KU and WSU, are similar schools in many ways when regarding academics. But by the way it sounds on this thread, that may be a reason why they two schools don't really like eachother beyond the athletics issue. Very, very interesting stuff....
                              it's up in the air
