  • If EO enrolls at Wichita State for 2009-10, Stutz and Hamilton will redshirt. EO, JT, Blair, Ellis will be available for 4/5 duty. I don't know much about Hamilton but I cannot imagine he gets minutes ahead of that group. If EO does not make it for 09-10 Stutz will not redshirt that year but Hamilton will.

One of my buddies talked to Greg about EO/Stutz situation Greg told him when EO gets to campus Stutz will redshirt that year…Stutz is on board.

Are you sure it's not the other way around?

So what you are saying is that he is functionally retarded? If he is not retarded, then I'm pretty sure he is fully aware of every inch he has on the others around him. His problem is confidence and strength and possibly a little lack of athleticism. If he was highly athletic he would still look stupid at times but would also "wow" the audience with a few glimpses of what's to come. He has shown a few flashes of skill but NO flashes of athleticism. I thought I saw some athleticism in the summer but now I am thinking I was watching another 7 footer from K.C. :(

Very funny. I guess you've never heard of a guy that grows so much but is not used to his new height. Some guy used to being a point guard suddenly grows to be 6'8" and expected to play power forward. He is used to dribbling the ball and staying low and isn't taking full advantage of his new found height. I'm just saying it is possible he hasn't quite figured out how to master being the tallest guy on the court and take advantage of his advantages.

        • One thing Garrett needs to learn is that being 3-4" taller than the guy guarding you doesn't help if he jumps 12-18" higher than you.

Upper-body strength will be nice, but he needs to add muscle to those legs to improve jumping and mobility. The tools and work-ethic seem to be there. I hope they can all come together.

I don't know about the claim that Marshall and Stutz already have a redshirt plan based on EO's arrival, but I could see the scenario happening.

          • A red-shirt AFTER your college athletic career has already started is a VERY disappointing sign of future potential. I mean, it would be ideal because Stutz seems to need some time and time should mean a better player his senior year. But a player that red-shirts AFTER his career has started is certainly not the cornerstone of a program that Stutz was hyped by everyone (including the coach) to be.

            Bring on E.O.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

            • If true, that will make for one hell of a twin towers combo in the paint when they're both 5th year seniors.

Well Stutz was going to be a for sure redshirt this season if EO came, but seeing as we all know that didn't happen, and thanks to Turgeon leaving the cupboard bare for us, we needed all the bodies on the court we could get. Unfortunately Stutz, that meant a year less of development he needed.

Maybe he is ticklish and when he holds his arms up high he is afraid someone is going to tickle him?

                    • Dan is probably correct to some extent. Marshall even talked last season about how Ellis seemed to not realize the things he was capable of doing with his size, length and athleticism. That seems to have changed this year.

I didnt get to see the return game but in the first game Garret looked pretty good and was having his way to a degree with Egleseder on the offensive end. But when the roles were reversed Garret was getting punished.

The kid has the offensive know how NOW but lacks the physicality on the defensive end. He seems extremely way to timid on that side of the floor and has had multiple opportunities to block or alter shots however just stands there and watches the shot go up. Eventually it will click for him on the defensive side.

I stated after the first time I saw him *UMKC* game that he looks extremely odd out there on the floor. He may or may not be done growing up, But you can tell by looking at him that he hasnt even remotely started growing out. He may not fill his frame until his senior year. We wont know until that time comes. He does seem to be wearing down but its his first year of D1 ball. I dont think this kid has the give up bug most from KC have.

Hindsight is 20/20 and in a rebuilding year as this year is we couldnt afford to redshirt Garrett. It would have been nice but not possible.

The good news for us is bad news for the valley. We only lose 2 players of any importance over the next 2 years. W00T!
Coach Marshall has projected Stutz's playing weight at 280#.

A little harsh. There are plenty examples of late bloomers in all sports.

My favorite example is Troy Mack.

Additionally, he is playing with increased confidence and aggression.

In the UNI game, he got in a wrestling (rassling) match for a rebound. He out jerked the opponent. He would not have done that last year.

Stutz faked a shot from about 18' and Egleseder went out on Stutz. When Egleseder went out, Stutz went past him.
Yes, the move was at my end of the floor and I was more than surprised and pleased.

His confidence to make the move is what impressed me the most.
