    We have a winner!

    • Does Stutz even look good in red? Some people don't.

          • I liked Stutz's game against Northern Iowa.. he played some pretty good defense and had a great block.

That drive on #53 (can't think of his name, their huge center) and lay-up was nice also.

            • I am pretty sure 53 is Egleseeder-7'1", 280 lbs.

              • That driving layup was an amazing scene to behold. A 7' center going point guard taking his man to the hole. I could not figure out why NI did not have some weak side help to stop GS.

                • That was a nice move. It will be better in the future.

Stutz faked a shot from about 18' and Egleseder went out on Stutz. When Egleseder went out, Stutz went past him.

Put about 30 pounds on Stutz (probably his Jr. year) and that will be a move that weak-side help won't stop.

With Ellis getting more minutes as the "big guy", a RS for Stutz next year isn't unthinkable. The lineup could go Durley/Ellis, Blair/Coy, Hawkins/Hatch.

Hopefully, Stutz does enough strength work during the off-season, that a RS isn't considered. Looking at potential depth charts, it would be possible to RS both Hamilton and Stutz next year.

I can't believe WSU with the luxury of a RS for 2 guys 6'8"+. What is this? The '80's?

                  • Does Stutz even want to redshirt? I thought there was another thread on here that mentioned that, but maybe it was one of the other players.

                    • Stutz will not redshirt. He will be our backup center next year, hopefully with more minutes as his strength improves and he provides quality production like last night against UNI.

Keep in mind that while Ellis is spending all his time down in the post these days, he is still mostly a jump-shooter (which I don't mind) and rebounder. He gets all his time at the 4, never the 5 spot. For this reason Stutz will not redshirt.

Hamilton next year is another matter, because we will have both Ellis and Blair fighting for minutes every day. Coy might figure into that from time to time, but I see him more as a big 3. Hamilton could probably use the redshirt year to refine his skills, which will come in very handy. He'll get two years to learn behind Ellis and Blair, and then take over his Sophomore year with 3 years to dominate in the Valley. (ok, maybe dominate is a bit too much expectation, but he could definitely be a major contributor)
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I agree a redshirt is highly unlikely next year, but do not rule out that chance for the year after.

I realize it's easy to get abnormally excited about the future and the unknown, but let me say you better get your tickets now.

09-10 should be fun....10-11 is going to be off the charts.

                          • Im going to go out on a limb and say that alot of people were pretty high up on Egleseder or however you spell his name at the beginning of year. The kid is big and prtty physical.

I didnt get to see the return game but in the first game Garret looked pretty good and was having his way to a degree with Egleseder on the offensive end. But when the roles were reversed Garret was getting punished.

The kid has the offensive know how NOW but lacks the physicality on the defensive end. He seems extremely way to timid on that side of the floor and has had multiple opportunities to block or alter shots however just stands there and watches the shot go up. Eventually it will click for him on the defensive side.

I stated after the first time I saw him *UMKC* game that he looks extremely odd out there on the floor. He may or may not be done growing up, But you can tell by looking at him that he hasnt even remotely started growing out. He may not fill his frame until his senior year. We wont know until that time comes. He does seem to be wearing down but its his first year of D1 ball. I dont think this kid has the give up bug most from KC have.

Hindsight is 20/20 and in a rebuilding year as this year is we couldnt afford to redshirt Garrett. It would have been nice but not possible.

The good news for us is bad news for the valley. We only lose 2 players of any importance over the next 2 years. W00T!

                            • Garrett may be one of the kids that doesn't realize how tall he is and what he can do with his height. If I remember, he had a big growth spurt pretty late. It's possible he hasn't yet figured out the damage he can do simply by holding his ground and holding his arms up high. Once he figures out how to put together his height and athletism he should be a very good player.

So what you are saying is that he is functionally retarded? If he is not retarded, then I'm pretty sure he is fully aware of every inch he has on the others around him. His problem is confidence and strength and possibly a little lack of athleticism. If he was highly athletic he would still look stupid at times but would also "wow" the audience with a few glimpses of what's to come. He has shown a few flashes of skill but NO flashes of athleticism. I thought I saw some athleticism in the summer but now I am thinking I was watching another 7 footer from K.C. :(
