She was more knowledgeable about Shocker volleyball than I knew. She didn’t know any of the current team but had only kind remarks about the head coach. Apparently, he built this program from scratch and is some sort of super guru. Is this true? I had no way to relate but she paraphrased it by saying he’s the Bill Belichick of college volleyball. If that’s true, then we’ll have to make it out to this event as I’m afraid we’re not even ready for a 100 level course.
Shocker Match Club Members have access to Lambo for a pre-game scouting report for all home matches.
When they first started the VB101 dinners they hoped to raise a few bucks to augment their recruiting and travel budgets. IIRC Shannon told me they hoped maybe they could attract 50 - 70 attendees. I think they had 300 or something like that. They were Shocked Shockers. I think that show of support has gone a long way towards keeping the Lambs in Wichita.
While Lambo is the Engineer his wife Shannon deserves a tremendous amount of credit in the success of WSU Volleyball. Probably much more credit than she actually receives.

The only sport I know that doesn't always use all of their alloted Scholarships is Women's basketball. I think Jody Adams-Brich used all of her 15 scholarships only once during her 9 years. Jody averaged about 11 scholarship players during her tenure. Next year Keitha Adams appears that she will use 14 of her 15 scholarships.
I do not know the how many athletes are receiving athletic scholarships as the equivalency sports can slice and dice the scholarships in a lot of different ways subject to whater the restrictions the NCAA may have in place. For example, baseball has 11.7 scholarships to divy up. The must give at least a 1/3 scholarship but can give no more than 27 scholarships. If everyone got the same award they would each get a 43.3% ride. However, I doubt that is the case. Also, HCTB may or may not give 27 players scholarships. He can divide the 11.7 over a lesser number of players if he wants to.
Here is a link to the scholarship limits by sport.

Division 1 members must sponsor 7 men's sports and 7 women's sports or alternatively 6 men's sports and 8 women's sports. There must be two teams sports for each gender.
Wichita State sponsors 7 men's sports and 8 women's sports. Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field are counted as 3 separate sports although they are all on the same roster and the Track and Field scholarships limits of 12.6 for men and 18 for women cover all 3 sports.
Basketball and Baseball are our two men team sports. Track & Field, Cross Country, Golf and Tennis are not teams sports although they compete both individually and in a team format.
Basketball, Volleyball and Softball are women's team sports.
We could drop 1 men's non-team sport or, alternativley, we could drop 1 women's sport and still be Division I compliant. Don't see that happening.
Title IX compliance is a bit more complicated. But we could probably add 1 or 2 men's sports (other than football) and still be Title IX compliant I would think with the scholarship discrepancy we currently have. Men's soccer would only add 9.9 scholarships for example. Title IX compliance is way out my sphere of what minimal knowledge I have. We do have more female undergrads than male and I think that can be a factor although I think there are several different methods a school can use to show Title IX compliance.
Since we don't have football adding men's soccer which is played in the fall and appears to have the highest level of fan interest of any option would seem to be the sport to add if WSU were inclined to add a fall sport. But if we are still harboring hopes of bring back football then we probably won't be adding any additional men's sports. And, of course, if we do bring football back additional women's sports would have to be addes as well.Last edited by 1972Shocker; August 4, 2017, 10:38 PM.

Not sure I would call him the Bill Belichick of college volleyball because he hasn't won any National Championships and probably won't. However, what Lambo loves is teaching the game. While he is competitive and wants to win I have heard him say he likes the teaching and training aspects of Volleyball more than he likes the actual matches. Lambo seems very popular with his fellow coaches and he is an ambassador of the game. The other reason I wouldn't compare Lambo to Bellichick is because personality wise they are totally different. Lambo loves to talk about Volleyball. If you have 3 questions for him you probably have a 30 minute interview. He is extremely knowledgable and very interesting to listen to. But he can talk a blue streak about other things as well. Sports in general. He's a big San Francisco Giants fan and I think that extends to the Warriors and 49ers as well. He also likes classic cars and loves to talk shop about that also.

Women's Soccer-14
Beach Volleyball-3
Women's Bowling-5
All of these "fit" with Wichita, the Midwest or Wichita State culture.

It would make the atmosphere at both programs games significantly better.
Creighton's VB and WBB team share the 2,500 seat D.J. Sokol Arena. There is a about a month overlap of playing seasons (more if you include practices). Not sure what kind of flooring systems Creighton has or where the teams practice.
Now all we need is a very deep-pocketed booster or two who support VB and/or WBB and would like their name on a building on the WSU Campus.

I love Lambo and the volleyball girls and am very hopeful that the new women's basketball coach can have some great success...but I can think of so many better things that the department could do with that kind of jack.78-65
