There are a lot of good reasons for taking in a Shocker Volleyball game (I plan on taking them all in). Watching Emily is among them. Watching Emily play is also near the top of the list. Hopefully, the new lighting will only enhance the experience.

At first your post flew over my head; Google is my friend. This old fart hasn't seen one episode of Game of Thrones, but might have to check it out.

You weren't alone my friend. I'm in the same boat. Thank goodness for Google.

          Heaven be thy name!

You wouldn’t believe the resemblance this athlete has to my sweet wife, Margaret. WE ABSOLUTELY MUST COME TO A GAME! Maggie’s going to get such a hoot out of this. I’ll see if I can load up a picture when she was back in college and share the resemblance. Have a bunch of them in an old shoe box under the bed. This is the best thing I’ve seen in months!

When is their first game? Can I get tickets at the door?

Tickets always available at the door. All tickets are general admission except for a few courtside seats in folding chairs on the west side of the court and I think those are only offered to Shocker Volleyball Match Club members (not sure this is a current brochure). You should have no problem finding a great seats.

The Shocks 1st 9 matches are in tournaments in Nashville, Indianapolis and Eugene which is not uncommon. First home match is part of the Shocker Classic. Shocks play Creighton at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 15th. They play Iowa State on Sunday, September 17th at 2:30 pm. Both of those matches should be very tough. In fact, the Shocks could easily lose both of those but they are capable of winning both as well. Very tough competition that weekend.

With your travel requirements that Sunday afternoon match may be your best option.

In fact, with the move to the American, the Shocks also have 4 Sunday matches (2 at Noon and 2 at 1:00 pm) that could work well with your travel. Those mathes are with UCF on 10/1, Tulsa on 10/15, ECU on 10/22 and Temple on 11/5. I am not real familiar with AAC Volleyball but I think Temple may be the best of these opponents. Tulsa has been quite good at times recently but not so much last year as they finished 7th. UCF was 4th in the AAC last year while ECU finished 10th last year.

That explains my wife's less than enthusiastic evaluation of the show.

Hannah Shelton is a 5-2 Libero (a defensive volleyball position introduced to college volleyball in 2002). You will be able to pick out the Libero very easily. She will be wearing a contrasting Jersey from all her other teammates. Libero's play with a very specific set of rules that apply only to that position. Hannah may play the Libero or she may play as a defensive specialists on the back row. You will never see her on the front row.

BTW, 5-2 Hannah is dating 6-10 Rauno Nurger. I suspect you and your better half don't quite share that height discrepancy. If so, then you need to get a picture of you and her with Rauno and Hannah. It would be even better if your wife is 6-10 and your are 5-2.

Wow! What a diverse group of players. I always thought volleyball players were always tall. I’m 5’5” and my kindred spirit is 5’3”. Not quite the 6’10” like the basketball team. The only way I know what it’s like to be 6’10” is when I’m standing on my step-stool. Maggie always says I’m more Frankcamp than Rauno but I’ve always thought she was complementing my stoic demeanor.

Do they ever do autograph signing? I have some older posters and pictures signed by some of the all time basketball greats but don’t own anything from the volleyball team.

Yes, they usually do have an autograph signing session during the season and typicallly have posters avialable for that. I'm sure Hannah would get a kick out seeing your wife if they look that similar (especiallly if your wife is 5-3). You would reallly enjoy the VB101 Dinner if you can afford it ($40 bucks each) but it usually runs pretty late and that might not work well for you travel-wise.

Thank you so much for this information! Maggie got a huge chuckle and ear-to-ear smile out of seeing the photograph of #20 while at dinner. She was more knowledgeable about Shocker volleyball than I knew. She didn’t know any of the current team but had only kind remarks about the head coach. Apparently, he built this program from scratch and is some sort of super guru. Is this true? I had no way to relate but she paraphrased it by saying he’s the Bill Belichick of college volleyball. If that’s true, then we’ll have to make it out to this event as I’m afraid we’re not even ready for a 100 level course.

Chris Lamb is definitely the mad scientist of volleyball. Very big on analytics and statistics. Great guy!

He too could have gone to greener pastures. After all, he is from the Bay Area. However, he has come to appreciate Wichita. "You people appreciate hard work here. You're my kind of people." He knows how special WSU is for volleyball. A bigger football school would ignore volleyball. Here, his team is the main attraction in the fall.

I remember when Lambo was hired. He seemed to take to Wichita very quickly. He and his wife (they were only engaged when they came to Wichita) seemed to be a perfect fit. There was alot of turmoil in the department with coaches when he was hired and i am very happy that the Lambs have stuck around to see their program continue to thrive. This guy is to WSU volleyball what 3G is to basketball.
