He deserves a colossal **** sandwich for recommending Cohen to fill his shoes, but the myth that he couldn't recruit and left the cupboard bare has been both persistent and wrong.

Why did he do that? Was it like flipping the bird at WSU as he left? Or, was he just trying to dump Cohen as he moved on to Vandy. Surely he didn't believe that Cohen was D1 head coaching material.

Funny stuff on Jimmy John's. I know someone that used to work st Chick-Fil-A, and they would often make deliveries to Koch Arena to the opponents locker room for post-game food. I'm guessing that SNU didn't have anyone to meet the delivery driver in the locker room to pay for the food, so the driver had to go out on the floor to get payment from them. Either that or the driver was clueless and just brought the food out on the floor.

Or, maybe it was just freaky fast.

I charted Frankamp's possessions against SNU. SNU had some pretty quick guards, but they were still an opponent where our guys should have been able (for the most part) to do what they wanted to do.

Passed to a wing: 14 times. Twice the wing was in a position to do something and drove to the hoop. The rest were where the wing tried to set something up for a pass.

Passed to a post player near the basket - 3 times. 1 TO, 2 assists

Passed to a post player at the top of the key - 5 times

Shot - 4 times. 1 3-pointer blocked. 1 Desperation 3-pointer. 1 pull-up jumper missed. 1 3-pointer made.

Used a screen - 5 times. 1 Drive and missed pull-up. 1 Drive and dish. 3 "pop and dish???" I guess that's what you'd call it when using a screen and then passing to either a wing not in a shooting or driving position or passing to a post player at the top of the key.

Times transition game was attempted when CF was in the game: 2. JRS took the ball upcourt on one and Shamet took the ball upcourt on the other.

He thought, or at least hoped, Cohen could succeed and our athletic department's leadership and finances were a total shitstorm back then. Facilities already sucked a decade+ prior to the Schaus revolution and a third of the roster (and some recruits) were openly threatening to leave if WSU hired outside of the program. Everyone hoped Cohen could grow into the job (lol) and we hired him for either 60 or 75 grand a year, I forget which.

We have a very proud history but our program was almost certainly doomed for a severe dip given the horrendous stewardship of the AD and university during the prior decade.
