I don't think he is an elite coach, but I think the hate often goes too far in the other direction.
He has made the NCAA Tourney in 3 of his last 10 seasons and 6 of 15 overall, with his best performance being the Round of 32. No **** he isn't an elite coach.
Edit: Also, regarding his son........he didn't recruit his son to Iowa State because he didn't think he could play there, so Mac literally isn't capable of identifying the NBA talent living in his basement.

So your core is two locals and a group of transfers.
Creighton is the real deal this year, they really are, but you have two Omaha guys that would be here regardless, plus a bunch of guys that Creighton was originally their second or third choice. Kobe Paras is a fine example. A great get for Creighton, he would be starting on many teams in the country, is buried in the depth chart. Paras, a coveted recruit, originally signed with UCLA, but something went bad. Once again, a guy that McDermott was unsuccessful in originally recruiting, luckily dropped in his lap.
In my opinion, lots of luck in assembling this team.

The constant back and forth between JH4P, Fever and a few others has gotten to the point where reading Shockernet is almost unbearable. It seems to permeate through every single discussion thread. I realize that this is a mostly anonymous internet messaging board, but at some point in life you've got to put on your big girl panties and quit getting so ******* butthurt every time someone says something you don't like. That rug really tied the room together.
