I don't think he is an elite coach, but I think the hate often goes too far in the other direction.
    What's his NCAA record?
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

Most appearances without making the 2nd weekend? Most appearances a direct result of a blood-relative? Looking most like a Star Wars character? Least defense played by a non-B12 team?

      • Sorry to derail this thread and talk about the polls ... but ...

It looks like we are on 12 ballots this week in the AP (out of 65). Two voters have us ranked at 21.

For those that like to take shots at Soren Petro, he has us at 23 (I happen to like him and his show).

Other than what MoValley John said, if McDermott doesn't have a son who is one of the most prolific scorers in NCAA history, you are probably looking at a coach who has already been fired at Creighton. If he hasn't already been fired, there is a solid chance he is on a 10-year streak of not making the NCAA tournament between his time at Iowa State and Creighton.

He has made the NCAA Tourney in 3 of his last 10 seasons and 6 of 15 overall, with his best performance being the Round of 32. No **** he isn't an elite coach.

Edit: Also, regarding his son........he didn't recruit his son to Iowa State because he didn't think he could play there, so Mac literally isn't capable of identifying the NBA talent living in his basement.

So your core is two locals and a group of transfers.

Creighton is the real deal this year, they really are, but you have two Omaha guys that would be here regardless, plus a bunch of guys that Creighton was originally their second or third choice. Kobe Paras is a fine example. A great get for Creighton, he would be starting on many teams in the country, is buried in the depth chart. Paras, a coveted recruit, originally signed with UCLA, but something went bad. Once again, a guy that McDermott was unsuccessful in originally recruiting, luckily dropped in his lap.

In my opinion, lots of luck in assembling this team.
Plus, 2017 top 100 recruit Mitchell Bullock thought he was signing with KU and top 100 recruit TY-Shon Alexander thought he was signing with Colorado. McDermott lucked out again.

Gosh, I wish we could sign some top 50 and top 100 recruits.

              • According to some on this board, McDermott should play Powerball.

Hyperbole. A figure of speech. I used it.

                          • When Jamar goes too far a certain direction, its hyperbole. When other posters go too far a certain direction, they're stupid, silly, and hateful.

Classic case of a guy that will never be wrong.

Show me a single case where I jumped on someone who used hyperbole and admitted it. You won't.

                              • The constant back and forth between JH4P, Fever and a few others has gotten to the point where reading Shockernet is almost unbearable. It seems to permeate through every single discussion thread. I realize that this is a mostly anonymous internet messaging board, but at some point in life you've got to put on your big girl panties and quit getting so ******* butthurt every time someone says something you don't like.
That rug really tied the room together.
