  • Saw this quote from Gregg this morning about Austin:

"We got a commitment from him with the understanding that we might send him to prep school. He was okay with that. He was coming off the surgery, and he was watching us play in Canada and he came up to me and he said 'coach, I can not only help this team, I can help this team now'. That's a pretty interesting comment from a kid that has never even practiced in a Division I practice, much less one of ours, but he was right. I have always liked his confidence and his moxie and belief in himself."

I think he gets more playing time tonight and hope he builds on Sunday's game. Liked the Lutz article but LOVE the 3G quote!

Yep, I see a little "Hondo" in Reaves; just stay healthy young man... and protect your grapes.

I understand your point, but he is different.

However, I cannot put a play alike name on him.

You look at him and say, "no way." He plays about 10-15 minutes and you say, "way."

You simply don't play the way Austin plays unles you have ample self-confidence. Now that self-confidence needs to be supported by skill and ability and Austin has IT.

            • Think about this lineup for a second next year.
              PG - Whoever you want
              SG - Reaves (6'6)
              SF - McDuffie (6'8)
              PF - Willis (6'9)
              C - Midtgaard (7'0)

Reaves, Duff and Willis throwing up shots and the Danish Bear grabbing all the misses.

We may well see this lineup next year, but we would be wise to not put too much on Midtgaard before we see what he is all about. Remember big men tend to take longer to develope than guards and he didn't start playing ball till his teens if I recall correctly. I believe he will be a good player for us, it may take a couple of years though.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

                  • More likely that Midtgaard redshirts than gets meaningful minutes over Rauno and Shaq, but your central thesis is correct, we will be taller, longer and faster than we could have dreamed 10 years ago.

He's not exactly like having a HS'r coming in. He will be turning 20 next September.

He's obviously not likely to be first year dominant, but I would be surprised if he's not in the mix at post. Willis looks to be a bad mamma-jamma of a get, but he's not really a 5 spot guy (not that you mentioned him).

                        • I think the kid must play next year, he'll have to do it all his sophomore year. Needs to get his feet wet as a frosh. Somebody else won't be in the mix.

Reaves' thread has been taken over by Midtgaard discussion. The reason for him to play next year and not RS is that Willis, Morris, Nurger, and Kelly will all be gone after next year and who knows about Hamilton. It would be nice for him to have some D-I game time under his belt for that following year and RS next year does not solve the scholarship problem (it appears we are one over at this time). So something's gotta give. Who that will be is anybody's guess.

How many freshman bigs will beat out senior SM or senior RN?

Also, I haven't seen any point guard instincts from LS. He plays like a three to me.
