Casting a wide net there. Realistically, our ceiling is a 7 with the selection committee. It's just not going to happen any other way. Do we know we deserve better? Absolutely, but we've seen year in and year out how this goes. I'd predict an 8 seed given our current situation. Highly doubt we end up anything over 10.

It's just hard to know what to expect. If the committee wants to go strictly by top 50 wins we could definitely end up as an 11 or 12. If the committee decides to seed us correctly to save some top seeds some pain we could get a 6. I'm definitely expecting that 8/9 game but I think the wide net is needed for this year.

        • Jerry the flipper boy has WSU playing SMU in the first round.
So yeah let's knock out either the #10 Kenpom or #13 Kenpom non power conference team right away.

          Incompetent asshole.

I mean, I just find it hilarious that his own CBS colleagues are calling him out this badly and routinely. Does Lunardi ever get called out on ESPN? NOPE.
That's because when you actually hear Lunardi explain his seeds, you hear him talk about a ton of factors and not just Top 50 wins. He actually talks about HOW a team plays. Pretty obvious he watches games.

Maybe we should consider sterilization for the whole fam damily? I bet it would improve the gene pool.

              • Yesterday during halftime of one of the games, Jay Williams was flabbergasted Lunardi had ILST in over IOWA, although Lunardi owned him pretty good ("unlike the committee, I think losses matter"). I remember Jay Williams being pretty dismissive towards us last year too. He's the epitome of blind deference to P5's and only having a job because DOOK. Quickly reminded me why I never watch ESPN.

                  RPI
                  WSU - 29
                  Cal - 56

                  KenPom
                  WSU - 10
                  Cal - 55

                  vs KenPom "A rated" games
                  WSU: 2-4
                  Cal: 1-8

                  vs KenPom "B rated" games
                  WSU: 6-0
                  Cal: 3-3

                  Best win
                  WSU @ISUr (RPI 30, KenPom 49)
                  Cal: @USC (RPI 39, KenPom 59)
The crazy thing about this is if wsu beat Cal it wouldn't be a top 50 win that is needed to gain at large. They are not good enough to be a good win, but are better than wsu.

                    • If advanced metrics are used (Ken Pom, BPI, etc. ), we should be a 3 seed.

If Lunardi's job is to predict what the committee will do - as I understand it to be - saying "unlike the committee, I think losses matter" means he's not doing his job.

Maybe. Although if all the talking heads said things like this every time they were on TV for 3 months, we might see a few less Vanderbilts in the tournament. When the media spends 3 months trying to make it OK for the committee to include Clemson and Syracuse, the committee will go ahead an include those teams. If the media spends 3 months telling everyone Syracuse isn't even close to deserving a bid, the committee might think twice.

                          • Here is a 15 minute interview with Schaus about the selection process if anyone wants something to listen to. I couldn't figure out how to link directly to the podcast from my phone but you should be able to play it from inside the tweet.

Jerry Palm should have a listen. He might learn something.
