I don't believe a win or loss should count extra because of the opponent's conference affiliation. That is what you are doing when you talk about a minimum "in-conference" record but you don't have a similar rule for non-conference games.

If you win/lose vs the 50th best team in the country, the that is what you did, period.

    • Sure. Great. You have to be above .500 non-conference too. All the world's problems are solved.

Teams A & B both go 7-9 vs the top 100, 15-0 vs all other.
Team A played most of their tough games out of conference.
Team B played most of their tough games in conference.

There is no good reason to have a hard and fast rule that one team is eligible, the other isn't, purely based on the distribution of conference affiliation of those 16 top 100 games.

        • Put another way, if WSU and Clemson both lose to Louisville, Clemson shouldn't be penalized more because they share the ACC label.

            Why not?

Team A very likely played a higher pct of their tough games not at home. Team A chose to schedule good teams.
Team B chose to schedule poorer teams in the non-con. The likely played a much higher pct of games both vs. Top 100 and overall, at home.

Reward the team that deliberately tried to improve their schedule, not the team that deliberately tried to dilute it.

If the 7-9's of A&B were different (one more at home, one more on the road) then of course, evaluate them on that basis. Just don't do it based on conference affiliation alone.

              • WSU remains "Last Four Out" in Lunardi's update. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-bas...l/bracketology

WSU slides in on yesterday's update of the bracket matrix. 37/79 brackets for WSU. 71/79 for ISUr. http://bracketmatrix.com/

                • Wins over Drake and ISUr this week should cement WSU in everyone's brackets by next week. They would then need to win the next half dozen games in order to build up enough cushion to handle a loss in St. Louis.

Well, it reinforced the power of the win at Bradley.

In Lunardi's bracket, it seems more likely we would play K-State with the winner playing Creighton. How fun would that be?

He is a BCS hack. He even said recently that the Big East would have trouble keeping up the those conferences.
