The 'Cuse is 2-11 away from home this season (2-8 road 0-3 neutral).

    • Also,

If your RPI means that you are not eligible to be counted in your opponents Record vs. RPI Top 50...

I do not care what your record is against the RPI Top 50.

I would amend this to say:

Teams that are below .500 in their conference should not get an at-large bid.

And yes, I know they lost in the conference tournament. But you aren't hearing anyone pump WSU at 20-1 in conference play this year; they were "17-1," just like the Jailbirds. When people refer to a team's record in conference, standard usage is to look at their regular season total. And since we're nitpicking, it's "principles" and ideals in all cases. You're welcome.
Got here late this morning. This board is slipping. It took over an hour for someone to catch this. Good job @WSUwatcher:.

            • Looks like Palm moved us up to a 10. Sorry if that is old news.

I'm not trying to debate standard nomenclature. I'm debating personal rules that people have expressed. I've had this discussion dozens of times on this board. You can draw up your own rules and opinions however you want, but many of the "no sub .500" posters I've chatted with have said they are willing to account for tourney games too. It is to them that I'm pointing out that 9-10 is OSU's record vs the Big 12 this year. That's sub .500. Based on many poster's previous statements, OSU shouldn't be allowed in.

I read almost daily about how failing to win half your conference games should be a disqualification. That sentiment is constant on this board. Yet strangely, while almost every bubble team that fits that category has been criticized on shockernet, OSU is somehow seemingly the lone exception.

                • I think any normal person would interpret the sub .500 conference record to be just a regular season thing.

Oklahoma State also has a 30 RPI, a good SOS, actual road wins, etc. I don't think their resume is remotely similarly to a Syracuse with its gaudy 87 RPI.
                  Deuces Valley.
                  ... No really, deuces.

I don't have double standards, I still think its Our Sorriest University. :)

Take up your "normal person" argument with all the posters who have expressed willingness to include conference tourney games as a sort of "compromise" for their sub .500 rule. Remember, I'm not in favor of the rule regardless of how .500 is calculated.

Also, your OSU vs Syracuse comparison furthers my point. OSU is clearly better than Syracuse. I would hope any sane person could see that. We should be able to easily conclude Syracuse deserves the NIT and OSU deserves the NCAAs. A hard fast rule potentially catches both teams under its net and removes the opportunity for common sense to prevail.

                      • If teams are having trouble getting to .500 in conference and need something a bit easier I'm sure the Valley would love to take them in.

Only if they are within bus distance from the Illinois/Indiana Schools.
