  • I know nothing of Iowa D3 schools. I only know a little about Fontbonne since I live in Missouri and I was once trying to get with this kind of chunky girl that went to school there. I did not end up getting with her. Beating them will provide a measure of vindication I reckon.

Fontbonne's basketball coach played golf at Missouri State so I guess we are throwing them a bone there.

    • Well, for those of us that thought there may be an uptrend as far as SWOMO men's basketball, we got brought back to reality. They're still a joke.

Morningside is a Methodist college in Sioux City. Warburg is an ELCA church in Waverly, Ia. Waverly is just a few miles north of Cedar Falls.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I loaded this chick up on margaritas, took her to my place and talked her into letting me Fontbonne her. It was awesome! Unfortunately, the next day, I noticed I had a burning case of Wartburg...

Thinking people might say that is a pretty reasonable indication the basketball program you just scheduled is terrible, regardless of NCAA division.

I think you are thinking of someone claiming that if Evansvulle had improved those bottom three games (even if they lost), the Shockers RPI would have improved into the high 20s and we would have by-passed our NCAAl play in game in Dayton on Tuesday night

Me neither. But I do hope if we are to be stuck in the Valley of Dead, that DJ and Alphabet have a good future. The more Valley guys visible at the next level, the better I would think. Feel the same way about the kid from NIU even though I don't like him well enough to use his name.

Fontbonne's women's basketball team did manage to stop the Wash U undefeated streak at 81 games. http://espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=ncw&id=5829400

One has a great NC SoS the other pretty poor.

Both have similar RPI's, Evansville actually has a higher RPI (93 Evansville - 112 ISUr).

Both finished tied for 2nd in regular season at 12-6.

Evansville won 24 games, ISUr won 17.

ISUr ended up 0-3 against (1-25) ranked teams and 1-3 against (26-50) for a total of 1-6 against (1-50)

                      Evansville ended up 0-0 against (1-25) and 0-3 against (26-50) for a total of 0-3 against (1-50).

Really a tale of two cities right there. I'd say that scheduling up only really helps if you're winning some of those games, but not scheduling up and winning will put you about the same tier as teams at your level scheduling up.

Granted this is a very tunnel vision view only looking at 2 teams in terms of scheduling up or not, we would need more examples, but thought those were interesting.

Maybe our resident RPI and bracketologists can weigh in on which path is best to take.
There is no schedule that will get you an at large bid if you don't win games against top competition.

IlSU didn't go dancing because they didn't execute. Evansville didn't go dancing because they loaded up on cream puffs. Maybe if they had IlSU's schedule, they wouldn't have done any better, but Mock and Ballentine will never be able to know for sure.

In D-1 basketball, unfortunately, the second option gives coaches more job security than the first.

                      • Let's say either ISUb or Evansville had won Arch Madness. At least ISUb wouldn't pee their pants at the sight of a P-6 opponent.
Or take UNI. Their resumé wouldn't have gotten them an at-large, but once they won Arch Madness their wins over UNC and Iowa St got them an 11-seed instead of a 13 or 14. So why not schedule up?

                            • Now I get it. When you're in the P13 like Evansville and Drake, you don't have to worry about silly things like tough scheduling. It takes care of itself.

As opposed to peeing their pants at the idea of the second weekend of the tournament?

Anyways, the term "Power 5" exists for a reason, even though we all dislike the line in the sand. Those P5 schools have large enrollments, do large amounts of academic R&D, and have large athletic budgets. There are effectively zero Big East institutions that can find common ground with the P5 in these contexts, as the BE is basically composed of schools that - at their core - are essentially large liberal arts colleges. The fact that you Bluejay fans are tone deaf to the quantitative chasm between the P5 and everyone else (certainly including the BE) is both humorous and sad.

Even though little ol' WSU doesn't fashion itself as a research heavyweight, there's just one school in the entire BE that betters our Carnegie Classification and NSF research funding, and that's Georgetown. The rest of the BE might as well be the poor sisters of the MVC, in this regard. The P5 laughs at the insinuation that you are "at their level".
