  • "#75 ILLINOIS STATE MEN'S BASKETBALL 2016-2017 PREVIEW" - College Sports Madness

Predicted to finish 2nd in MVC

"Illinois State struggled early last season, mostly due to a very tough non-conference schedule, but by Missouri Valley play, this was a pretty good team. The Redbirds managed to finish tied for second in the conference with a 12-6 record. With four starters returning and a very good group of newcomers, the expectations are higher heading into the 2016-2017 campaign. Senior Paris Lee is the team’s top returning scorer and passer, averaging 11.1 points and 3.7 assists. Lee is a decent outside shooter, but his job this year will be less about scoring and more about finding other scorers. Lee is certainly capable of setting up his teammates and the more scorers he can help develop, the better off Illinois State will be this year...."

    • Sounds like the Jailbirds should have the league's best talent (1-12, anyway) again. Hope WSU can find that magic 13th guy again this year -- he seems to keep being the difference. And by the way, kudos to SIU for both recognizing their scheduling deficiency and actually doing a little something about it.

John Robert Simon. He's been on the roster the whole time we've been hearing about 1-12. He is the magic 13th guy who is the difference. I think he usually gets a lot of minutes at the end of the game when we play the Redbirds, too.

        • WSU’s men’s basketball team will scrimmage Oral Roberts on Oct. 29 at Koch Arena.
Preseason scrimmages are closed to media and fans. The closed workouts typically consist of morning and afternoon sessions. In addition to scrimmages, coaches agree to work with score-and-time situations or specific defenses.

I realize this is a scrimmage, but that covers all the Oklahoma Division 1 teams this season!

                • Tough start to the road conference schedule with the first three road games being at Indiana State, at UNI and at Illinois State. Good news is that their students should still be gone on break.

                  • Well. I guess that makes it official.

We have to play Drake twice again this year.

If Illinois State does the stink through the first half of Valley play then get red hot routine, playing them early would not be a bad thing.

Predicted to finish 8th in Big 12 conference

Potential Opponent in Battle 4 Atlantis

"The month of March is when great basketball programs are made, but last March did not go well for Baylor. The Bears were looking like a team that could do some serious damage in the NCAA Tournament heading into the month, but the team opened up the month of March with two losses to close out the regular season. In the Big 12 championship Baylor beat Texas before falling to Kansas. Then in the NCAA Tournament, it was a big upset by Yale that sent the Bears home in the first round. With three starters gone and in a conference that is extremely tough, Baylor could find it difficult to make it back to the NCAA Tournament in 2017...."

Wasn't that the game where they got out-played on the glass?
