-He has no idea how Steven Solomon will figure into the mix and WSU can't comment on him yet. He has no reason to think he will be a big part of next year's team but again, he doesn't know if he'll be a practice player, someone they think can contribute down the road, or somewhere in between.
-Jeff asked if, on May 4, he can see any single player getting 30 minutes at the PG position or will it be mix and match? At this point Paul thinks it will be mix and match but he spoke to a person close to the program who said that Frankamp has looked good, more assertive in spring practices.
-They talked for a while about the CBS sports article about the Mountain West. Paul thinks they'll stay in the MVC most likely. They will need 1 or 2 more shakeups for an opportunity to arise. The comments by Big 12 commish could start one of those shake ups. It is likely easier to change conferences than it is to start football. Bob and Jeff argued back and forth about the plausibility of joining the Big East.
It will be interesting to see how Conner plays now that he doesn't feel the need to defer to Ron and Fred. He's an upperclassman now and has a year under his belt here. He may be poised for a big year.

        • Framkamp will play the two, big East is a good place for us, and would help make them a future power basketball conference, Steve solomon is a walk on player who, like all walk ons think that if the stars align, and in right situation could get playing time or later get a scholarship.

Are you arguing with Paul's reporting, or are you close to the program and know more than Paul's sources? Maybe you are Gregg himself. It sounds like his sources were saying that Conner is playing some Point Guard and he is playing well.

Could it be he is playing the point because there is no one else available to play said point? Smith and Reaves are not here yet. How hard can Shamet go at this point in time?

Playing it well might be true or the perception might be enhanced because CF is playing the point against JRS, who is knowledgeable but of the same size and quickness as CF, in general. Or he may be the greatest PG ever to come to WSU -- at this point, it is all speculation.

This. Exactly. Those who act as if they know for certain what any given player will or will not do generally end up making themselves look foolish.

In the alternative, put the ball in the hole with great regularity, play lockdown defense and forget heavenly bodies.

                  • Unless Marshall is REALLY trying to make a point with a player, we tend to hear nothing but how great everybody is in practice.

We've heard for close to a year how Frankamp was looking good at point in practices. That was mainly from other players. What are they going to say, that the guy sucks? Not saying that's the actual case, but players aren't going to dis a teammate when the media or fans ask about that player.

If you want to know how a player really looks in practice, watch the games and observe who plays and where they play. It would seem that if Frankamp was projected as a significant contributor at point this year, he would have seen some court time there last year to prepare for this year. At the very least, he should have seen time at point when VanVleet was hurt. The fact that didn't happen says a lot about what happened in practices between December, 2014 and November, 2015.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

When Fred missed games, CF was not yet eligible

                      • I still believe in my original thought process when CF transferred. If he was looking at a career beyond college, he HAD to be a 1; he will NOT be a "shooting guard" at 6 ft in the NBA. Self told him he wouldn't be a 1 at KU; I believe HCGM convinced him he could be a one here. Now, we'll see IF he can play that spot, but if he has NBA dreams, he better play PG. Anything else is just building up good stories for the grandkids.

That's right. My bad. I'm in too much of a habit of thinking in terms of season when some players aren't available for the entire season. CF may have been having very good practices at PG when FVV was hurt. We'll never know.

Paul's deduction that he can see multiple players and a mix and match at the point sounds to me like the information came from a coach, not a player. This statement by itself, does not say that anyone will play the point but it does point to multiple players being looked at and being candidates for it. This is a new year. Don't jump to conclusions too quickly. While last year isn't totally forgotten, it's a new year.

He played point guard quite well at KU as freshman....
