Discussions about McDuffie playing in the post should include how we get better with our post on the outside. WSU plays a 4 out and 1 in offense and you need players that can handle it, slash, and shoot the ball. Markus has a complete package for the role he plays. Post him up if he has the best mismatch at times, but I have not seen a back to the basket post game from him accept a few high light clips from high school. The only difference between the 3 and 4 is who you guard on defense.

I like 6-6 and 6-7 players, who attack the basket and finish. Who will that be?
I like insta-quick players, who attack the basket and finish. Who will that be?
I like at least 3 players in the 35%-40% completion rate from the 3 line. Who will that be?

I believe we will see some growing pains for a team that will be transitioning from one with outstanding (likenesses in the rafter worthy) senior leadership and experience to a team that will have no seniors and no proven leaders at the D-1 level. A team that will have to develop a new identity and team culture and chemistry. The only question is how severe will the growing pains last and how long will it take the team to complete the growth process. On that I have no idea.
No doubt Coach Marshall appears to have some very good raw material to work with. Predicting how this will all come together next year seems very nebulous to me at best.
That doesn't mean it won't be a lot of fun watching this team grow and develop. I am very much looking forward to that.
Correction: We will not have any senior scholarship players next year. We will have 2 walk-on seniors, J.R. Simon and Zach Bush, assuming they choose to return which as far as I know they will. J.R. may get some play angry minutes at the point especially early in the season. A lot will depend on how Daishon Smith can adapt to Marshall's system and the D-1 game and to what extent 3G may want to use Landry Shamet at the point. In any case, it is not unheard of for walk-ons to provide useful leadership to the team. Cameron Ledford comes to mind as a good example.Last edited by 1972Shocker; March 27, 2016, 11:09 PM.

As i think about the future, I would like to see WSU strive to reach the sweet sixteen
on a yearly basis.
In order to do that, the criteria I think you need are players that play well against teams that went to the NCAA Tournament.
WSU has 5 returning players that scored in double figures this last year against NCAA Tournament teams.
C. Frankamp- 13 Pts. Seton Hall, 10 Pts. Arizona
E. Hamilton- 14 Pts. Iowa
Z. Brown- 10 Pts. Iowa, 14 Pts. Utah
S. Morris- 11 Pts. Iowa, 10 Pts. UNI, 12 Pts. Miami
M. McDuffie- 13 Pts. Utah, 15 Pts. UNI, 10 Pts. Arizona.
Those 5 players would be my keepers.
WSU has have 4 new recruits coming in.
WSU had one medical redshirt and one transfer.
If my math is right, WSU can afford to keep 2 players that I didn't mention
in the 5 keepers.
I understand that scoring in double figures is a subjective criteria, but you have to use something.
Also, there are things that you would need to know that we can't know on which players would be best to keep.
Some of thhose would include:
1. Academics
2. Team Chemistry
3. Extra work in the gym
These are things only the coaching staff really knows.
WSU has proven that it can reach the round of 32.
We need to improve on that performance.
Last, but not least, WSU needs to learn to coexist with the MVC and stop going to war with them
at least until after we leave the conference.
