  • Mostly focusing on Valpo and Monmouth with just a passing reference to WSU, which makes sense -- for a number of reasons that become apparent pretty readily to anyone looking beyond the superficial, as the mighty JH4P does here and presumably the selection committee does too, inasmuch as for them it's an actual job. So WSU is in a different league, both figuratively and literally, than the Crusaders and the Benchdancers. They aren't "at this level," one might say.

Actually, he may have. He publicly critiqued the 30 minute show they did on him.

That must mean that the Utah game doesn't count.

There is nothing Elgin can do, good or bad, to keep Wichita State, should they decide to leave. And it does him no good to try to damage Wichita State. Remember, after Creighton bailed, there were meetings held to keep others from leaving the Valley, but nothing came of it. No painful exit fee, no signing over media rights, nothing. While all schools wanted a stable conference, enough of the FCS schools wanted a get out of jail free card should they get the invite to a small FBS conference. Therefore, nothing to make anything miserable for Wichita State.

Unfortunately for those football schools, Missouri State was the only school to get an invite. And they got two! One to C-USA, then another to the Sun Belt!
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

LOL. Just LOL. Without the injury to FVV we would be a middle seed NCAA team or better. What an idiot.

Pretty solid discussion with each taking turns why they think they'll make it in and why they think they won't. They start off with the Wichita State discussion and it lasts for the first 24 minutes of the podcast.

If you have 24 minutes, it's most definitely worth a listen:

Good review. These guys seem reasonable, if they see WSU make it in, great, if they don't, they understand the logic too. Listen up folks, in 5 days, Wichita State will be the center of NCAA basketball and a lightning rod for controversy. A lot of media publications are saying no one has ever seen a situation like we present to the committee and generally the views are polar opposites - either we are in or out.

I'm of the mind that non power conference programs will always get the shaft. The NCAA will cater to the masses and will select teams that offer more viewership and higher ratings potential. If we're lucky, you can bet your sweet a$$ that CBS is going to come down and disparage our bid and throw the book at the committee member they interview on live TV about the rationale and justification of their decision.

It will get uncomfortable watching and listening to CBS insult us but I'll be as giddy as toddler in a candy store. However, if we don't make it, you can bet your sweet a$$ CBS is going to have a crew here in Wichita to interview coach. GM is a firecracker, I just hope he can compose himself and remain professional on live TV and not live up to the extreme negative stereotypes a lot of folks have of him.

And without the Illinois State road loss, we wouldn't have one single triple-digit-RPI loss. That would make us a lock. I can play this game too.

                  • I'm betting there are cameras all set up in the watch room or wherever it is that the Shocks will be watching the selection show. And I'm betting they show jubilation as we are introduced into the bracket, regardless of what seed we are given.

Just a few weeks ago when UNI beat us, we went on a seriously nasty five game tirade. CBS disparages us at the peril of looking completely ignorant, should we play the next several games as well as we played those games.

I honestly think the NCAA wants more "mid-major" programs as the 7-16 seeds. They like the upsets and Cinderella stories early, then the heavy hitters late. People watch early for upsets, not chalk. Chalk is boring until the Final Four in their eyes.

Plus this year everyone on the bubble is basically even, so I predict we'll see less "oh man that team got SHAFTED" talk than ever before.

Who do you think has higher ratings potential, Oregon St. or WSU? Correct me if I am wrong, but WSU has as high a ratings potential as any of the teams on the bubble, even with Michigan, Florida, and Syracuse.

                            • What's funny about Palm is he only plays the 'what if' game one way. What if we had a full lineup from game 1 (VanVleet, Frankamp, healthy Grady)? What if we don't blow a 16 point lead to ISU? What if Fred hits that shot? What if SH doesn't get 100 calls to come back from 11 down in the 2nd half?
He's going to very befuddled come Sunday.

                              • Well, 5150, when you start with the answer you want and then work your way back to a justification for it, you have to be selective and bend the principles of logic and reasoning a little. And you have to be willing to ignore important but inconvenient facts, like the computer metrics that love WSU but cloud Palm's "thinking."

Nothing new about that, though, even in more important walks of life -- judges do it all the time, for example.
