He's an honors graduate of the Gottlieb School of Media; but he gets his extra bit of attention and controversy, and (in the style of Professor Doug) that's all that really matters to him.

By the way, Zub from Omaha, I'm curious -- if you think Palm is a buffoon as you seem to, why do you keep coming here to quote him? Things a little too quiet on the Bluejay front these days?
Don't let my location fool you. I'm a 1980 WSU grad. I keep quoting his crap because I'm so incredulous that he actually says it. Believe me, I don't agree with him. I'm just worried some on that committee might think the same way.
Don't worry. I'm not a Creighton fan. My two favorite teams are Wichita State and whoever is playing Creighton.

    • Let's face it...the Shockers need to win Arch Madness. No, not because they'll miss the NCAA Tournament if they don't. Three or four more wins should handle that.

They need to win it because:
      A) the Shockers are the best team in the Valley, so there is no excuse to not win it
      B) the Shockers want the best possible seeding for the NCAA Tournament
      C) I REALLY don't want to listen to doomsday talk in a couple weeks in case the Shocker slip up in STL

There is a small part of me that would enjoy seeing WSU's name pop up as an at-large just to see Palm and Gottlieb go nucking futs...but screw it, let's just get the auto bid and call it a day.

I will not be attending Arch Madness, so that should help the teams chances. I didn't go in 2014 after going so many years and the Shockers had to break the curse. I thought it was all safe last year, so I went. The good guys did not win it...so I am staying away.

          • Thanks to this thread, I now hate Jerry Palm more than Doug Gottlieb.

            • "Nucking futs?" That alone is worth a prize of some sort, WuShock16, even if you weren't heroically planning to stay away to help the cause.

The Valley conference schedule is like mowing your back yard in 100 degree weather. You just want to be done with it. So you think you can skip pickin up the dog ****. But trying to be careful not to let the tires go over any piles.

But low and behold, one pile always sneaks up on you and then you have to spend more time hosing off the mess on the tire, or else it'll stink up the whole garage.

And then you wonder what good the damn dog even is. All it does is **** in your yard, eat your food, and leave dog hair all over your house.

The Valley is your dog, the yard is our schedule, and each valley team represents a pile of ****!
Thanks for chiming in on this man. Funny and dead on accurate.

                • So in Jerry's World, WSU isn't allowed to lose a game.. ever.

                  Ok, got it.

That's correct. All other team are allowed a road and home stumble but WSU must win and win by 30 points all season long.... even if they don't have their AA PG playing.

                          • People use a lot of bad rating systems to justify who they want in or out of the tournament.

One of my biggest pet-peeves is looking solely at a team's record against certain RPI categories. (Top 50, Top 100, Top 200 records). If this is how you base your decision, then you are completely wasting your time in 'analysis.' If you base your decision on categorical records within a ranking system, then it is asinine to not just use the ranking system to determine your tournament entrants.

If a team is 1-3 against the RPI Top 50 and you claim "they didn't play enough good teams, and their record against those teams is bad," but then turn around and ignore the team's own RPI of 32, then you sir, are an idiot. If used as your primary determinant, either the ranking system is valid or it is not.

                              D) Get other Valley Board posters off our backs for hardly ever winning the Mo Valley post season tournament. (Won in '85, '87, '14)

                              • It's pretty simple actually, the Shox have their destiny in their own hands. Win in St. Louis and you don't have your fate placed in the "expert's" hands. Everyone knows the Shox are hands down the best team in the Valley and it's not even close. The MVC losses were due to the Shox beating themselves (poor execution, poor shooting) not because ISUr and NIU are better teams or remotely close to our level.

Fans of the numerous bubble teams are looking at our resume and laughing their butts off and asking what makes us at-large worthy. Exactly what DG and Hairy Palm are saying. As far as I'm concerned it's St. Louis or bust.

The committee states over and over that the teams they select are measured on their own merits, but something tells me that the human factor may play a part in their assessment of the Shox. Just my opinion, but if the Shox lose another game and we are truly on the bubble, I'm having a hard time telling myself that the committee will gladly ignore the Shox and see household names as Ron Baker and FVV finish out their careers in the NIT. I just don't think they'll let that happen. In the deep crevices of their mind, they will subconsciously not allow themselves to relegate WSU to the NIT. That is about as Sunshine Pumper I get when it comes to the Shox - I'm going to go now and throw up.
