New Mexico State game canceled? [Rescheduled for Feb 15 @ 7pm]

WICHITA, Kan. – Monday night's Wichita State-New Mexico State men's basketball game has been postponed due to travel delays.

The Aggies' original flight into Wichita was cancelled due to winter storms, and the team was unable to book a replacement flight in time for this evening's 7:00 p.m. CT tip.

"We have been in close communication with New Mexico State personnel over the last 24 hours," said Darron Boatright, WSU Interim Director of Athletics. "We appreciate their efforts to get their team here for the game to go on as scheduled however, this morning it became apparent that a game tonight was not going to happen."

The teams hope to play Tuesday, Dec. 29. Game time is still pending, based on NMSU's travel arrangements and the Shocker women's 7 p.m. tip against Oklahoma Christian.

Hard to believe they would enforce that. I would think the contract would contain some force majeure language that would except that payment in this case.

In any case, if I was WSU I would not enforce any cancellation fee in this case unless I had absolutely no interest in ever scheduling New Mexico State again.

Darn. I am in town have tickets but was going to leave town tomorrow morning. This sucks but safety of the other team is more important.

I sold my tickets because of driving 2 hours in the weather and hope the buyers can still make the game. I probably would have made the drive tomorrow, though.

Wouldn't they try to move the Women's contest to a high school or Friend's, Newman, or Butler or Sunrise so the could accomodate the majority of the ticketholders?

I have a feeling they will do everything they can to make it an evening game but there are still some issues to work through.

Scheduling a flight right in the middle of blizzard (that was well predicted) is hardly a good plan. That could have easily been in town if they left a day or two earlier. Sure it might have cost them a little of their $125,000 for additional hotel lodging. That what UAB did during that last blizzard - came in early.

Tuesday night game before a Thursday afternoon game ends up being a pretty quick turn around for the guys.

I would think so. Or move the start time of the women's game up if OCU can get here. OCU may actually prefer to play earlier in the day if they plan on returning to Edmond after their game which I assume is the case.
