This season, our win total is going to matter more than our RPI. Our RPI getting a tiny hit from playing NMSU and winning (hopefully) while adding another WIN to our record is a debatable point. I would be inclined to say that because of the way our team is perceived this year, it would be better to have wins than a few insignificant extra points in the RPI. Maybe I'm wrong. When I say "resume building" I'm talking about the perception that having more wins will create. The Shockers are a known commodity this year because of the notoriety Fred and Ron have. They just need to get back to a record that looks similar to the top 25 teams and we will get a lot of benefit of the doubt... and having this game against another 100-200 range team will help accomplish that.
Just don't lose.
And give me a break on splitting hairs on what defines exactly half of the MVC. I know Gregg Marshall struggles with counting, but I don't. :)

At that point, of course, we had no idea what was about to befall the Shocks. But now that we do know, a win against NMSU would enable the Shocks to get at most to 25 on the regular season, which would leave a championship in St. Louis and a successful first weekend in the NCAA as requirements to reach 30, even if they win 'em all. A loss or two or a non-win cancellation, and that trip to Houston suddenly becomes a necessity. That was the case last time, too (the Final Four team hit 30 on the number), so it's possible -- but the extra chance to win is a nice boost.
