Most probably the best RPI game on the NMSU schedule. However, the big consequence is losing the 6-figure payday if they can't make it. Losing the RPI game is probably not very meaningful for NMSU. They most likely will have to win the WAC post-season tournament to get into the NCAA tournament in any case.

If they are going to have to charter a jet - the cost/benefit formula changes drastically.

      1. What does a charter cost? $3,000-4,000 per hour? You are probably talking $40-$50,000?

      2. Then when you have a home game the next day? What if something happens and you can't get back? How much do you lose?

      3. Then you have to turn around and fly out to California for your 3 game in 5 days.

I think if you start adding up the cost (and intangible costs) - you just tell WSU sorry, we tried. How about we reschedule maybe the return trip next year or the year after.

They don't care about RPI - they only have one chance of making the tournament and that is winning their conference autobid.

If they can't make it tomorrow then rescheduling the game for next year makes sense. In fact, it might provide an opening for rescheduling next year and adding another game for the following year. It sounds to me like New Mexico State wants to play this game. I hope they can make it work.

Here is the postponement announcement from the Aggie's web site: http://nmstatesports.com/news/2015/1...228151542.aspx

There seems to be a pretty good working relationship between the NMSU and the WSU athletic departments so whatever happens I expect this to be worked out pretty collegially.

Just because I don't want to start another thread....

If they play this make up game in the afternoon, I will be Pissed! I already had a rude awakening when noticing that Thursday's opener is at 1pm. Don't people have to work? I do. Last I checked Thursday isn't a federal holiday, it's not a made for TV game, how does the home conference opener happen in the middle of a workday?
            Anyway...back to work

For WSU sake I hope they do. I did price out a charter - looks like they are available and would cost them $40,000 to 45,000.

If they play NMSU in the afternoon I think you just have to consider the circumstances and accept that. Now why they scheduled Thursday's game at 1:00p is a little curious and doesn't really make sense to me. I wonder if that is something Drake requested for some reason?

Game is on ESPNU, so it does sound like they scheduled for TV. There are 35 college basketball games that day and 29 are before 5pm. Looks like the norm.

Well, damn. Won't be the first or last time I'm wrong. Still not happy about it.

Even if it costs NMSU and additional $35,000 over the cost of flying commercial it is still a pretty decent payday if the buy is $125,000 as someone posted. So instead of netting $115,000 after travel costs they net $80,000. (Not sure the $125,000 buy amount is accurate or not)

I don't see NMSU's game on Wednesday against NAIA Arizona Christian as being a big issue for them.

I suspect that even that reduced payday is why they are doing their best to try to make this game happen.
