For Ron and Fred's last run, I'll take an additional oversized mature freak athlete that can shoot. Yes please.

A team with 2 pre-season all-Americans that in the span of 1 week are defeated because the team gives up a 16 point lead while only scoring 20 points in one half and them holds a team to 15 second half points and still manages to lose at home. Be it Chemistry, a cancer, or a hex by an opposing team's fan base. Regardless of the cause, something is horribly amiss, so for me, yes, "bad juju" is at work.

        • We need someone else than Fred to attack the basket against the zone. No one else on this team seems able or willing to do so. And where in the heck has our transition game gone?

I'm wondering this late in the season whether LS can help in these 2 areas. If so then there's good possibility for a much needed boost down the stretch.

Ok, I can understand that. Not sure I completely agree, but it's certainly not out of the question. I just read "bad juju" and think of the old voodoo lady in New Orleans taking somebody to a back room and poking pins into a faceless doll. Lol

            • Landry is at least 6-5 now or Peyton Allen is only 6-2 1/2 or 6-3

Bill Self placed a hex on the team. Lol

                • I'll admit I haven't read the entire thread, but in the parts I have read I don't see anyone mentioning the single most important part of the decision - can he perform at a D1 level physically? I think he's as good a PG as Fred was as a freshman and a better SG than Ron was so no doubts about the IQ being there, but I do question whether his ankle and foot strength are sufficient.

My suspicion is confirmed by Mike Kennedy, who works it into every answer about Landry that I've heard in the last month on pre game shows (including yesterday). He specifically talked about how his ankle weakened from being in the boot for so long and not being able to plant/push off/etc. And I can attest personally from multiple 6-8 week stints in casts to how quickly and completely atrophy can set in, especially in the small muscles of the lower leg and ankle.

That takes a while to come back. Even though a boot is better than a cast and Landry is an elite athlete with better medical care than in my situations, there's still a human element to it. Not to mention that he's being asked to perform and contribute to a very high level.

If he can contribute at close to the same level as before he got hurt then I absolutely think we're a better team and want him out there, if for no other reason than I don't think he'll be here for four years anyway. But if he can't contribute or even worse puts himself at greater risk for aggravating the old injury or incurring a new one, then I don't want him pulling the shirt.

Maybe some people know more about the procedure - is it similar to what Durant had that didn't work the first time? I think it's the same injury that Ron had, except Ron didn't have surgery - which I could see creating a difference in recovery time and atrophy (although I am not a doctor and have no idea).

                  • If Landry should play this year, perhaps we should temper our expectations on just how effective he may be. He's played 3 games of D-I ball, 1 against Charleston Southern, 1 against D-II Emporia St, the other against Tulsa in which he played just 10 minutes before fouling out.

Compare this to Ron who had a full redshirt year to learn the system and gain strength. The next year, Ron played the first 10 games before his injury averaging about 25 minutes per game. No doubt that Ron was very important to our F4 run, but he wasn't without practice and game experience.

I'm not saying Landry wouldn't be effective or help, but there is no comparison to Ron's experience and what that meant to him and the Shocks.

                    • Going into Saturday's game I thought if I saw him in pre-game warm ups he would play this year, if he isn't able to shoot lay ups then he should take the medical. I'm afraid I don't see the benefit of 3-6 games vs another season.

                      • My family was traveling home from a Valentine's weekend trip I gave my wife, and the circumstances didn't lend themselves to listening to the pregame show -- any more news or updates on Shamet?

                            ? Reason for the bump?

                            • Probably to help me out, stick -- when I was asking my question a few posts up I had to go pretty far down the page (maybe even to page two?) to find the thread. An occasional bump makes things much easier, and I have to admit to being too lazy to do it myself. Plus, I don't spend the time monitoring to be able to know a thread is getting away from me.

So keep calm and bump on, anyone who wants to.

                              • Let the man RS. If he comes back, a) his stamina probably won't be up to snuff, b) there's probably some loss of strength and flexibility in his legs and ankles due to inactivity and he'll only be effective as a perimeter player, c) how's his confidence? d) watching his teammates practice is different than developing real chemistry on the court in real games, e) is it really worth it? This is not a FF caliber team.
