I don't think his info on Landry is anything more substantial than what you'd get on a message board, but nothing worthy of badgering him about.
Interesting, because a message board is where I get most of my info; THIS one! LOL!

    • The reason why he shouldn't redshirt (assuming he can play next week) is because without Fred we don't have an attack going to the basket. To me what would be interesting is to chart the shots with Fred in the lineup and without. My guess is we would have more jumpshots from farther out with less time on the shot clock without Fred. Ron is not a point guard... He's just not that good at it and CF, to me, is a disappointment in that he is very timid and reluctant to attack.

I need to go back and watch the the 3 games Landry played in but I recall him attacking a heck of a lot more with the potential to move the defense. Without him I don't think this team goes as far as we would like in the tourney. Next year we start the learning curve over as far as the backcourt and nothing says the front line is going to get much better if at all. So this is your shot otherwise its going to be a couple years.

Besides Fred and Ron, I've seen these players attack the basket at one time or another: Zach Brown, Markis McDuffie, Rashard Kelly, and even Eric Hamilton in mop up time. There might be others. Even Conner has driven in, then passed off to an open player.

I have said a number of times here that I know people who have been connected to Kunkel personally and most of them are fine people (and most from the Indiana/Illinois - specifically Indianapolis and Chicago areas), so I would tend to believe he had a bad case of hoof in mouth disease which he probably contracted from Ms. Jen Bates.

I wonder if he'll be able to practice next week.

It looks like 4 of his 16 field goals were at the rim.

This has been pointed out several times before but I think it is worth mentioning again. You have to keep in mind the opponents in those 1st 3 games. Charleston Southern, Tulsa and Emporia State. The CSU and ESU games are not very good barometers of how Landry might do when he comes back. Tulsa was a good barometer. In that game Landry played 10 minutes (at a time Conner was ineligible) and scored 4 points. Granted the sample size is obviously too small to really make any conclusions one way or the other. However, I can see Landry being a little gun shy about taking the ball into heavy traffic for awhile out of fear (conscious or unconscious) or exposing his foot to re-injury. We simply don't have much relevant experience to go on.

Obviously, what we on this board think should happen is of no significance as a far as whatever decision is made but I don't think that it is a slam dunk to think that Landry will be able to come back at a level that will make it worthwhile to either himself or the team. Fortunately, Landry and 3G will make that decision with a much more in-depth knowledge and feel of the situation than I or most of us on Shockernet possess.

                • I just wish someone would move the defense when Fred is on the bench. This team "as is" just doesn't do it without him.

                  • Looks like a redshirt is very likely

Not a surprise really. Initially I think they said he would be out 10 to 12 weeks. We are now 12.5 weeks out. The most important thing is to get Landry back to 100% healthy for both the short and longer terms.

He was very aggressive against Tulsa. I like what he provided, just had a couple unfortunate fouls. He also would have scored more if not fouled hard.

                        • Sorry to see that, but if he isn't ready, he isn't ready.

Maybe this will forcefully drive home to players like Frankamp and Zach Brown that they need to step it up a notch, which both are capable of doing. Baker needs to be able to get a breather; CF needs to be more aggressive; and ZB needs to take better care of the ball. Make it happen, guys.

                          • No surprise, best thing for Landry and the team in the long run.I want him for four years, and he will be one of the key building blocks along with Mcduffie to keep this going and win the league 4 years straight, and 5 out of 6. Would have been nice to see what he could have brought to the table along with Fred and Ron all year long. Would have made a difference in more than two or three of our losses, no doubt....

Kunkel is easily one of the more talented media members to cycle through Wichita is quite awhile. His career will prove that out.

A P5 ass-kisser who has already worked at ESPN and graduated from a private school? That's obviously a recipe for success but it's just about the last person I would want covering the Shockers.
