I hope for Landry's sake that he is NBA starter material because if he's not, he won't live up to the hype he's got. At this rate, he's supposed to come in on September 15th and average 10 pts, 5 bounds, 4 assists and 0 turnovers a game for the remainder of the season and carry us to a national title.

    I'm not saying he won't.
Who is he playing for in September???

    • Looked at the idea of too many minutes for Ron.

Last year during regular conference play, Ron played 30 minutes or more in 14 of 18 games. In those 14 games, he played 34.5 mpg, in all 18, 32.4 mpg. In the 4 games under 30 minutes, 13 of the 20 total minutes less than 30 minutes were in just one game.

So far this year in 12 Valley games, Ron has averaged 29.3 mpg. He has played 30 or more minutes only 4 out of 12 games, for a total of 18 minutes over 30 of which 8 were in the last game.

For the season, last year Ron played 32.7 mpg, this year 31.5 mpg (so far). Ron also had additional rest prior to Valley play this year when the NM St game was postponed. IMHO, Ron is not being over played.

        The Sixers.

        Unless they redshirt him.

I think Ron is just having to work WAY harder this year. Seems to be getting many more double teams.

Shall we check other AA's total minutes and if they are having to work harder. My guess is yes. It comes with the territory.

And I do agree with an earlier post that it's harder to be strong on offense if you're playing more intense defense.

Its all speculation anyways, unless someone just wants to ask Ron. He only seems partially super-human instead of completely super-human this year :)

Can a pro team redshirt him? I'm going to consult the rule book

Thanks for the numbers, ST. For the record, I don't think Baker is being overused on a per game basis either. But last season he also didn't start playing in June with a bunch of fairly grueling practices / tryouts followed by a string of games against competition bigger, older, tougher, and more physical than what he faces during the season. And then when the season started, he did have an unusually heavy workload early on because of having to plaY PG in LeFred's absence. If anything is catching up with him now, I wonder if it's that combination -- not his minutes / game in Valley play.

We've heard coaches lament that their teams wore down a bit because of summer practice and tours, even though it helped them get off to quick starts; in fact, I believe (although don't remember for certain) that was one factor cited in the dramatic fadee by Turgeon's last Shocker team. What I'm wondering is whether maybe Baker is experiencing some of that type of fatigue on an individual basis.

                        • I am at the point of preferring a redshirt for Shamet unless he can be playing by Monday and is likely to contribute 8-10 minutes, both of which seem unlikely at this point.

I think he is going to be really good and want him here for 4 full years and don't see the minutes for him in the depth chart. It was hard for me to get to this point for me because we have the example of Baker, which was incredible.

I know it is up to him, his family and his coaches and I'll fully support whatever they decide but it seems a reasonable point to discuss this topic again.

                          • Saw Shamet at noodles and company. He ate his noodles really well. I would say his injury didn't slow him down at all when eating noodles. The way he filled his fountain drink and picked up the "smolder from Boulder" spice stuff looked as if he should return to action soon.

                            That's all I've got.

Oh, don't tease me...how did he handle the chop sticks.

His chopstick execution is one area where he could improve. He is only a freshman though. It will come with time. The important thing is he knows what his game is and he plays to his strengths. The way he looked tonight, nobody was gonna stop him from taking the noodles straight to the rack. I'd look for him to be on the court against NMSU next week.
