The ankle was injured earlier but just because he had injured his ankle earlier, it doesn't mean that the earlier injury had anything to do with the new one. Sometimes, bad luck happens that is beyond anyone's control.
He looked very stiff and a long way from competing successfully against D1 basketball players. I am not sure what type of Karate Kid antics could make a significant impact between Friday and Tuesday.

I would not expect Fred to play. If he does play, I would not expect him to have a net positive impact on the game. Therefore, I hope HCGM develops the right game plan which allows WSU to win and Fred to heal. We have enough horses to get it done.

I'm actually hoping we just keep Fvv out of the Tulsa and Emporia games and try to get him right for the early tourney. No need to push it. If the freshmen are tough enough to bring us a win on the road, then we will be better than originally thought (and we've been thinking about a Final Four/National Title).
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

Physical Therapy three times a day can do amazing things on a young kid. Does anyone know if it is a high ankle sprain?

2nd ranked recruiting class in the country (for you 90's fellow's especially that insist on downgrading the shockers.. like the last three years is a miracle.. "i never thought this would happen"). marshall knew better. this team, they are just about, almost, ready to equal 1980-1981 for national perception. we'll see what happens at tulsa this tuesday.

Tulsa board has new thread titled:
Wichita State part 2 (KU fans need not apply)
              LOL

Man, can you say obsessed and insecure? That Phoggy guy needs to just come out of the closet and admit he's a Shocker fan. I've never seen a fan from another team go to a 3rd party's message board and obsess about another team like that. Wow.

One TU fan said we struggled Friday. I guess 25 point wins without our All-American is struggling now? Tons of rotations, lots of minutes spread around. I think the experimentations will be a bit more limited Tuesday. Playing without FVV is going to hurt a lot, but it's still a winnable game. I am pretty uneasy about it though. Lots of young guys, road game against a Top 50 team, etc.

If Fred was 100%, I'd guess a 7-10 point win. Without FVV or a limited FVV, and this one is a straight-up toss-up. Wouldn't be a devastating loss by any means, but when you lose only 6 times in the last 73 games, it's a sucky feeling to take in.

                ... No really, deuces.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I say with or without Fred the Shockers win by 10-15. After the first 7 min the game is never in any doubt.

I don't think Fred would have stayed on the bench if the opponent were saltier than Charleston Chew. I think he plays this game and plays well, but doesn't put in the full 30 to 35 minutes we are accustomed to seeing from him.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

This game will probably be a dog-fight. It's been awhile since Tulsa has beat us, and with a veteran team like theirs at home it will be a tough place to get a win. I think we squeak this one out, our depth will be a factor....Shocks 72- Hurricane 65.

Absolutely. I'm speaking to basically everything after that. This senior class is rock solid. The closest one in the discussion is Stutz, Murry, Smith, Kyles & Ragland (salty, I know), but you give me Grady, Dubya, Wessel, Baker & Van Vleet and I think this year's senior class would edge that class in a Valley race. And I'm talking by a narrow margin, but the point being that if you were taking 11-12 down to Tulsa, would you be worried? You add to that the fact that this freshman class is nuts... the best, most well rounded freshman class we've seen in a long time for some instant depth. Then after all your Shockernet buddies tell you to cool it and remind you you're overhyping after only a couple games, you remember that you've got Shaq, Kelly, Brown, and a well blended, aged and seasoned stogie at PG to boot!

Meanwhile a guy who would be the starting center at 250 NCAA schools opted to redshirt because we literally don't need him yet.

And after that, the best scorer HC3Gv3.3 has ever seen is helping the team prepare at practice along with a young, but proven transfer.

This team is going to do a few big things. I'm not worried about Tulsa. It could be an early season lesson, but I doubt it.

Not to [ick or disagree, but I remember Marshall's comment re Frankamp as the best shooter, not the best scorer he had ever seen.
"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

Crap. We're gonna lose to Tulsa :)

I watched the game on ESPN3 and our local commentators were running replays that clearly showed Fred having problems getting into defensive position during the game you mentioned.

So if he can't get to the right spot or position defensively, tell me how he would be an asset on the court (aside from the obvious issue of aggravating the injury he's nursing).

I'm not worried about Tulsa, but to say that if Tulsa had been our first game instead of our second and to further state that he would have been playing would be the type of comment you might hear from someone who didn't watch the game.

I think he won't play against Tulsa and we'll be just fine. We have two freshman guards who are talented beyond their years who have had to practice against him and Ron everyday. I think we'll hold our own at guard and our frontcourt is clearly better and deeper than theirs is.

IIRC, Tulsa only beat Central Arkansas by 17. I think Charleston Southern is a much tougher opponent than Central Arkansas.
