  • Russ, we gonna make it this week???

    • Also #23 on Bret Strelow's ballot.

No love from Seth Davis (as mentioned above), Jerry Carino, Tyson Alger, Geoff Grammer, or Todd Palmer so far.

      • I doubt we get any love for the remainder of polling season. We had our chance and blew it; several times. Sucks but the focus is and should be on the conference tournament and Dance.

If I had a guess, I would say just outside. 26th or 27th. So far both ballots that we are on we have moved up. We have not been added to any ballots released so far. Ultimately that is what needs to happen.

I was hoping we would go into Arch Madness ranked, but we will just have to win the thing and be ranked next week!

Makes for a better story line.... unranked to national championship. Can't wait for the movie!

              • I have zero doubt that we would jump into the rankings if we win the tournament in St. Louis. We are close enough at this point already anyway. We are 21-3 by a grand total of about 10 points from going undefeated since going 2-4 in November. If I had to say what level the Shockers are currently playing, I'd say we are playing like a 10-20 range team. However, the many losses we suffered (AKA our inability to secure enough solid wins because of injuries) over the course of pretty much a 10 day time period in November are holding us around #26. That's not THAT bad.

To me, a much better measure of exactly how respected WSU is will be the size of the sigh and whining rumble that comes from the fanbase of the upper seed that draws us in their bracket if we aren't seeded very high...because everyone who knows basketball knows they drew a 10-20 range team into their tournament run. You can measure that sigh on the Richter scale, I guarantee it. It will be a bigger one than the one we sighed when we drew VCU as a 5-12 a few years ago. And the commentary on the selection show will be all over the "WSU is way better than the 7, 8 or 9 seed they just got" narrative.

In other words, everyone kinda knows where we belong. You just can't justify ranking us #15 on our resume so we are hanging around just outside. I wouldn't be suprised to see us at #26 or #27 today, and then all the way up around like #18 out of nowhere if we win the conference tournament. People know.

                  • Not listed on Doug Haller or Chris Murray's ballots.

So far we have seen 10 ballots, and we are ranked on 2 of them (Bozich at #20, Strelow at #23).

                    • So we're pretty much penciled in as "others receiving votes." And I'm ok with that.

I agree with this. It sure sucks that we're no longer in the top 25 but it really is hard to justify this season. We've lost seven games and have really only one signature win against Utah (that win looks better and better as the season goes on).

But the program is getting the kind of respect we have demanded for years and I don't begrudge the voters their rankings right now. But as Dave points out, come Selection Sunday, some "Blue Blood" is going to say "Oh ****" when they find they're in our bracket. We just need to keep taking care of business.

                            • Surprised. About time Utah got the bump they deserve. That could end up a Top 10 win. And a dismantling at that.

                              • Coaches all got together and said "we gotta get WSU up there again so we don't get hosed in our bracket!"
