AP and Coaches Poll Watch Thread (2015-16 Edition)
I don't usually complain about the polls, because I don't believe they really matter much, and being overlooked in them can provide motivation in its own right. So just get into the tournament by winning in St. Louis or according to the one poll that does matter, that of the selection committee, and then survive and advance.
Still, some things are hard to understand, such as:
1. How are Iowa State and Texas still ranked? I know it's the Big 12-2 and all, which means that any loss other than to TCU is a quality loss, but at some point don't even the quality losses pile so high that they knock a team off someone's ballot?
2. Why would anyone vote Utah ahead of WSU?
3. Does Seth Davis have amnesia? I thought he was aware of WSU, which would cause me to think he might be aware of how the Shocks turned around last week, but apparently not.
Texas is what puzzles me. 17 wins; lost 3 of last 4; still ranked? This is either Texas love, B12 love, or respect for Smart that he didn't have at VCU.
Utah is definitely underrated. Their resume stacks up very favorably against many of the B12 teams in front of them.
The fact that the Shox absolutely obliterated them is a good sign (and I think a big factor in the kenPom ratings. Utah has a tendency to hang points on good opponents and we absolutely smothered them.)
I mean, Utah's resume is objectively pretty damn good (7-6 vs. Top 50, 7-1 vs. 51-100, Undefeated vs. the rest). Are you basing that just on H2H?
If anything I think they are underrated.
Yes, I am. By the way, I don't necessarily dispute your belief that they're underrrated. I just think WSU is better, and that the game between the two wasn't a fluke.

Iowa State only has 1 more loss than WSU, and 3 of their 8 losses were in OT. #17 may be a bit high for them, but I see no reason top 25 shouldn't be expected.

I thought WSU returned to the polls quickly and in fact climbed faster than I expected in January. I believe that was a result of the accommodation the voters gave the Shocks when FVV went down and we lost games early. But now having lost a couple games with FVV back and appearing healthy to teams pollsters expected the team to beat, they are a little more hesitant to jump back on board. Ranking after all are more emotion based.

If every team was ranked based on head-to-head results, I'm sure the Top 25 would be an even bigger clusterf*** than it already is. That is in NO way, shape, or form how you're supposed to rank teams.
Now, if two teams are very similar in resume and performance and teetering around the same ranking, then yes, I'd look to head-to-head and likely give the nod to the winner of that game.
By your reasoning, Minnesota should have moved into the Top 10 this week.
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.
