2. Good teams from good conferences want as much money as possible when going on the road to play anyone.
3. Intrust Bank Arena has 5,000 more seats plus suites, alcohol sales (I really enjoy being able to have a beer at a Shocker game), etc. that boost revenues, allowing WSU & promoters to offer more to good teams from good conferences.
I realize that 99% of Shocker fans would prefer the Utah return game to have been at Koch. I also believe we only get the Utah return game in the first place because of IBA, and that IBA in the future helps bring in more solid competition. Does WSU give up a "home" game at Koch for a "home" game at IBA? Yes. I am under the belief, however, that if not for IBA, the Utah game doesn't happen, and it's Newman University or a D2 team that fills the spot. This is the 4th? year of games at IBA, and having that extra $$$ goes a long way towards attracting home and home commitments we haven't been able to secure before.
Utah's non-con home schedules the past five seasons:
2014-2015:
Pacific (Ore.)
Ball State
UC Riverside
Texas-Pan American
North Dakota
Alabama State
No. 8 Wichita State
South Dakota St.
Carroll (Mont.)
2013-2014:
Saint Martin's
Evergreen State
UC Davis
Grand Canyon
Lamar
Savannah State
Ball State
Fresno State
Idaho State
BYU
Texas State
St. Katherine
2012-2013:
Simon Fraser
Williamette
Sacramento State
Idaho State
Central Michigan
Wright State
Boise State
SMU
Cal State Northridge
College of Idaho
2011-2012:
Adams State
San Diego Christian College
Montana State
Cal State Fullerton
BYU
Idaho State
Portland
Weber State
2010-2011:
Adams St
Grand Canyon
Montana
Weber State
Oral Roberts
Fresno State
Pepperdine
Boise State
WSU last year is the best team on the above list by a very large margin.
Further, Utah has agreed to play true away games at the following locales in that same period (not an exhaustive list):
Portland
Bradley
Utah State
Boise State
Fresno State
Weber State
Texas State

However there is a possible fix for this: Give every single season ticket holder their own personal code a week in advance of the public sale and allow them to only be able to buy the exact same amount of IBA tickets that they are allotted at Koch.
You have 2 season tickets? Here is your one time use code for 2 tickets at IBA.

I don't expect them to do things different on my behalf or anyone else's. But they are gouging just because they can (it's not just IBA, it's the whole freaking business model), and it doesn't make logical sense. As someone already pointed out, you can't convince me online ticketing costs them more than paying people to sit behind a window six days a week. I guarantee they are able to sell more tickets to an event just by having online ticketing, and further saving money on manual labor. That should cover most of the cost.
Factor the true costs into the price of a ticket and quit playing games.
No, not basketball games. Money games. :)

Their fees make selectaseat/ticketmaster look like pocket change.
We're not talking about taxes and specific fees here, like with hotels and airlines. No, these are generic fees they are charging arbitrarily (see my previous post for the logic) to pay for other areas of arena management.
From a KWCH article about this very thing:
Arena Manager Chris Presson says if you haven't bought a ticket in a few years, it may come as a surprise. But it's the price ticket outlets charge for convenience and to cover box office overhead.
"When you hook up a credit card line, that costs money," said Presson. "When you buy a credit card machine, that costs money. You have service charges you incur from the credit card company that you have to cover. Then you have labor on top of that to process the transaction."

Guess what? All those things are required when you walk up a buy a ticket with a credit card. Yet only those buying from home are paying for it. I would pay a few dollars per ticket for the convenience. But not $9. Regular retail businesses can't get away by charging extra to process a credit card. They factor that into the cost of doing business and price their products accordingly. Why can't event ticketing do the same thing?

Credit card machines cost less around $200-$300, and the fees charged to retailers are in the order of 2%-3%. That's a long ways from justifying ticket surcharges. They're actually an anti-trust issue, but as of yet no one has gotten a lawsuit to stick.
When you have an arena that is bought and paid for by the end user like IBA, the ticket surcharges are enough to make your skin crawl. Crony capitalism at its most refined state.

Now that debit/credit cards are a primary form of payment, they've relaxed those rules. Retail store aren't like to change unless they all do it at once.

Wow, does everyone just need something to complain about to make them feel better? The allocation method sucks, the fees are too much, season ticket holders are getting screwed, no map to pick my seat on the site, this game should be at Koch...Holy crap, some people are just never happy!! Either you are buying tickets or you aren't, quit complaining about the process. $20 (with the fees) is less than you would pay to watch a game at Koch Arena
I have to be in Kansas City for an exam until 1:00 on the day of this game. Should I be pissed off at ESPN for scheduling the game at 2:00?? The bastards are making me miss the game. How dare them?!?!
