Unfortunately, the author apparently doesn't realize the atmosphere level in CKA has been the same for at least 10-12 years, and that the place was 3/4 full in that decade we don't speak of. Regardless, nice press on CKA and the WSU fan base.
I'll say it again, but Marshall usually doesn't talk up Freshmen like he's been talking up the guys in this class, especially Shamet and McDuffie.
These guys must be the real deal Holyfield.
If that's true, and we have freshman competing on this roster in a way that impresses Marshall, forcing their way into a system that already projected to need limited minutes from them...

He's been talking up Shamet to anyone that will listen. McDuffie is being brought into the conversation and Marshall is playing it up. That's a significant difference in my opinion. It speaks well for both, but even better for Landry.
I wasn't on SN when Ron and Fred came in, so my access was much more limited. Was there much of this talk about them before they played a game?
There was a ton of buzz about Fred because, even at 18, he was an obvious leader and was flying under the national radar despite great performances in high school against some of the Illinois AAs (Jabari Parker and Yogi Ferrell to name a few). He was a borderline top 100, and far and away our best recruit under Marshall. Still, I don't recall Gregg talking him up much.
Ron had a whisper campaign from those in the know, but it was more cautious. He was a nobody from western Kansas that no one else wanted, yet the coaches knew he was special. Still, no buzz there.
Players like Cle were mentioned by HCGM as being the worst player on the team. Darius was called out as soft. Ragland was said to be learning slowly. Shaq was lazy, and none of last year's freshman could understand the offense.
Landry is already a special player in the mind of Coach; one that has earned his praise before the team has even taken the court. He's something different than what we've seen in the past.
I met Landry at the SASO ice cream social. He is very excited about the upcoming season, and is a polite and gracious young man to boot. Love how HCGM works so hard to get players of great character here.

Wasn't this guy the jackwagon who yelled at Elgin about the officiating during the 2012 game when the Shockers went into Omaha and handed Creighton its backside?
I'm not sure, but I would give him Gottlieb's position with CBS right now.

Chad Millard (13) Forward - 2008-09: Junior at Creighton• Battled injuries to average 1.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.• Appeared in 25 games, all

Ron did get a lot more hype around here after Shocker Madness his redshirt year, when he dunked over someone (David Kyles I think?)
I believe Landry is "special" because of the person he is and the character he possesses and the fact that his knowledge of the game is in the FVV range.
NOT FVV mind you, but in the ballpark. This young man "gets it". Big time. Because of that, and his very high skill level, he will command minutes.
