Yes, but worse. He'd be leaving his alma mater.

For some reason, I don't see him going anywhere. I'm not convinced an AD will be as high on him as some national sportswriters and rumor-mongers.
I am with you. I have never been convinced that Coach Lowery is A list material. He had the benefit of coaching very fine players, who were recruited by previous coaches at SIU. His recruiting track record is spotty at best.

Since his teams play boring basketball, new job opportunities for him will be limited.

One year from now, we will know just how Coach Lowery stacks up as a coach.

What does the media really know anyways?

C-LO did benefit from previous coaches. And you are correct that it will be next year when we all see what he really can do.

Yes, there has been much praise heaped on this class. Some say it is one of the nation's best.

The proof is in the pudding.

SIU's high ranking (somewhere in the 30s nationally) was mainly due to Booker being a 4 star. After pretty much being just a teammate to Roundtree, his summer AAU performance got him the stars. Could be wrong, but I don't think his HS season was what is expected from a 4 star. I would not trade Garret for him.

It's the best recruiting class on paper in the MVC, but not by much IMO.

Here are a few more names that are getting thrown around:

                Jay Spoonhour
                Brad Brownell (Wright State)
                Rex Walters

Jay has alot of local ties since his dad was coach here. Bruce Weber is the name that is getting the most run on the local talk shows though.

Somebody give Bruce Weber a call and let him know he is the front runner. That ought to be good for a few

Bruce Weber is less than 2 years from being out on his butt...

I think that the Bweb idea is legit. He took Self's team to the final 4 and it's been downhill ever since. There are rumblings that he may be out after the season either way. The talk radio host are comparing it to Dana Altmans departure at KSU and the success he has enjoyed at CU.

Having a good coach at MSU will only elevate the league. Notice how the MVC raised and lowered with WSU's success. Another strong team in the league and we may be getting 4 or 5 bids consistantly instead of 1 or 2.

I hope it's not Weber. I just don't like the guy.

It looks like MSU is going to cheap out and go after an assistant since they couldn't get Roy Williams or Coach K. LOL

Cuonzo Martin is an 8 yr associate coach at Purdue. I can't beleive that they can't attract a coach from a smaller University with the $$$ package that is being rumored.

A top assistant can be just as good though. That wouldn't be a bad hire for them. On paper anyway.

He recruited many of the players that are currently at Purdue, and has many ties in the STL area, plus in and around the Great Lakes area.

Cuonzo would be a solid hire by MSU. He's one of those top assistants that is starting to get on a lot of AD's name list. He's going to be running his own program in the near future, whether MSU or not.
