These big man athletic projects in our program recently have underperformed IMO because each didn't begin playing competitive BB till their early-mid teens. BB is a game of feel and nuances that takes years to understand and execute. It is not their fault. The kids themselves are awesome. It's just a bad experiment I hope the staff has learned from.

You take the good with the bad on these players. What HCGM asks of them is to protect the rim, rebound, and set screens. They aren't going to score a lot of points and might end up with more turn overs than field goals, but they make the offense and defense rum smoothly.

I don't see Shaq as an NBA guy unless he develops a Charles Barkley like game. I do see a Jai Lewis/JT Durley type career where he uses his strength and athleticism to dominate the taller opposition as an upperclassmen.

He not only has the potential, but the build to have a Charles Barkley type of game. His biggest question is will he put in the work or not? IMO his biggest limit will be his work ethic. Work hard and be the best PF in 30 years + here or mail it in and be more like Durley. It will depend on his work ethic and attitude.

I remember when Karl Malone expected to be the 1st round draft pick for Dallas, who instead picked Detlef Schrenpf. He never forgot that and he never let Dallas forget it.

That's the kind of work ethic he will need. The jury's still pout on whether he has that level of work ethic, and I can understand doubters.

That is a wide range of minutes. Based on his points per minute, at 22 minutes, he is at 4 points and 5.5 rebounds. at 10 minutes, only1.8 and 2.5

If he can play some D and we get improvement out of the others, that may be enough. We need him for some good post D, set some screens, and rebound. The rest is lagniappe.

I would too. That's next level, national championship type stuff. Those guys don't usually land outside of KU, UK, UCLA, Duke, Indiana, Zona, Florida, or Ohio State. You have to find the rough cut diamond and hope you can polish it in 2 years.

I don't think it ever hurts to give a big an extra year. Paul Miller and Garret Stutz both would have benefited. More time to work on footwork and hit the weights.

If you're correct, Nurger will not be a major contributor until he's a senior. That qualifies to me as a bust, based on expectations coming in when he signed.

I don't doubt that it would have been better for us but I don't know how Nurger feels about being a 26 year or senior. He has skill that suit the international game and would think he would like to play closer to home sooner than later.

I would agree. As I have said before IMO the reason EO and now Bush didn't/haven't come close to setting the world on fire is (and not their fault) they didn't come to competitive basketball till well into their teens. In America the standard players been playing basketball at very early ages. During those formulate years players learn the nuances of the game, which gives them insight as they develop over many years. Players like EO and Bush, who didn't learn the nuances and insights make simple actions look robotic, mechanical and stiff. The opposition, therefore, can anticipate more easily. ITS NOT THEIR FAULT.
