Marshall was looking long and hard this time of the year last year. He pretty much went after every big on the planet that wasn't locked up. He ended up with BWam and Glass. Then got Nurger on a fluke situation very late.

About the only way to get a legitimate big who can be expected to have anything but a development year next year is if some 5-star one-and-done guy decommits and Marshall can sign him.
Good point. I guess the big swing and miss may have happened last off-season. On the other hand I think continually notching wins over blueblood programs like what happened this yearand making another run to the Sweet 16 along with all of the publicity of the Alabama thing could be raising our profile to a point where the five-star or something similar enough isn't outside the realm of possibility.

There's still some 5* one and dones that haven't committed.

FSF had a swing and a miss on Mr. Nurger being a starter at the 5 this Season with Carter playing the 4?. How could this happen to this fearless SN proletariat? Could it be I am too offensive minded? Could it be I forgot the best thing about Freshmen is they become Sophs? Could it be that Mr. Wessel's experience and blue collar grit on the hardwood not only could not be denied, but was instrumental in KU's demise at the 4 slot? Maybe, but the issue is indeed as follows: "I have never made one thin dime coaching." It is what it is so that is what I have to say about that. We had players not playing their natural position, but still producing results. How Su-weet 16 it is.

After all, Mr. Nurger had a very nice point production versus St. Louis. However, in the next game against Seton Hall, did he even play? Mr. Marshall does stress defense, rebounding, and rim protection from his bigs. Kerry will see to it that Rauno will indeed get much stronger. I love the nice stroke that he has from 3-point land and am optimistic that RN will develop and give us match-up advantages versus our futuristic foes. We are not into the 'one and done dogma' but rather the Marshall Plan."

What blindsighted KU in their loss versus UNI many moons ago? UNI (no not NIU) had a tall Center who rarely even shot 3's, step up and make a few too many versus KU which allowed the last 3 point shot from a UNI guard to seal KU's fate. The Valley of Death term may not be the platitude it was way back when, but it is the Conference WSU still plays in and the best of the best teams are not knocking our doors down to play us much. Thus, allow me to proclaim us as the reining leader of the Valley of Shock!!!!!!!

What does it all mean at WSU where players continue to develop each and every Season? Look for Nurger, Shaq, Kelly, and Bush W. to be new and improved next Season. However, losing Carter and Cotton to graduation could mean some April recruiting of others to join the Shocks? Prolly, because when you are 'dancing with wolves', you have to shave daily and bring in the reinforcements that have game baybay.

            Even clearer

Creighton Sports Information Director Rob Anderson confirmed to USA TODAY Sports that McDermott will be a walk-on next season to make room for Gibbs, who was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA on Tuesday.

McDermott and his family will have to pay the full tuition at Creighton, which ranges between $30,000-40,000. Even though McDermott's father is an employee at the school, NCAA rules prohibit any financial aid unless that person has been employed for more than five years.
"From my perspective, it's worth it to pay for Doug's tuition to have a player of Grant's caliber (on scholarship.) It was really the only option," Creighton coach Greg McDermott told USA TODAY Sports. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...ghton/2483463/

I read this to say that a coach's son may get some relief from some of the cost of tuition if longevity/tenure of the coach is sufficient. i do not see why Evan or Ron would do that, though, I believe they could.

As you've all stated, Nurger was a big miss. I thought he would be a big contributor.

Glass. Before the season started I thought glass would start at the 4. He had the most experience of all our new guys.

I thought we would get knocked off in the big dance by a team with a superior frontcourt.

I thought Baker would be an AA. I thought he would take a step forward and become a superstar. He disappeared often this year. It's like the first half of the season FVV wasn't doing the best and Baker was, then they decided to flip the second half of the season. We need to get both these guys playing well at the same time!

I think we'll see Bwam play like Chadrack did his senior yearnext year. I think SM will continue to improve.

I think MMcD will give us a big lift in the front court.

I'm hoping that RK had the yips and its not a case of 'manos de piedras.'

I think CH ought to consider his options.

I think RN is a potential bust if we can't put some meat on him.

I don't see much hope for TG, either. He will never start for us.

RH looked better than CH, but I'm not sure how much. He'd better get it going before CF becomes eligible or he will be buried. He may want to re-assess his options.

I think CF and LS will be the real deal.

I think our front court will be much better and we may not need another big.

Nurger is not a miss, not yet. He is a freshman. This time next year we will have a better idea if he is a miss, but not right now. Same with Holland and Henderson. None of them are burger boys. Why do you expect them to play like burger boys? Some people need to come back to earth. All three need developing. If you want to talk about reasons to dismiss them from the team, talk about their fit with the team. Do they fit the game plan? We have had some players in the past that were obvious misfits. Nick Wiggins, for example. Good player, but not a good fit in Marshall's system. Same with Manigault, Anacreon, Reggie, and the list goes on.

IMO, they all fit. They just need to develop.

I think the thing I was most disappointed with was our defense in the paint. Bad interior defense is to be expected with the tallest starter being 6'7, but we could've played it a little better. I also was disappointed in BW, he looked lost on defense and offense so many times, but he showed some flashes at the end.

I'm not sure it is tied to being a coach's son or graduation. Louisville had some players in 2011 who became walk-ons so the scholarship total could meet the NCAA limit, and Matt Stainbrook from Xavier gave up his scholarship so his little brother could have it this past season.

Not a cite of NCAA rules, but good info.

I don't think they're burger boys but like a lot of others, I thought CH fancied himself as a shoot first point guard. Too bad he can't shoot. With RH, it's more numbers and talent upgrade related.

RN made a major mistake by not taking a RS year. I don't see his playing time going up next year, again, based on who we have coming in.

Yeah, CH kind of pissed me off a little bit. He is not a player Id want on any team of mine. He seems like someone who is in it for himself and not the team. I hate saying stuff like that but it's just what I have seen.

I liked Stainbrook the minute I saw him play in PR. He was my 'Carl Hall blue collar' guy this year.
