  • Also adding to the above ND assessment- our defense has some very good parts to it, but our 4/5 positions can be laughably weak sometimes. I would argue that Jackson and Grant are very very good on defense, and Vasturia even better, but Connaughton sometimes will play ginger defense (perhaps avoiding fouls) and Auguste plays VERY soft underneath. A lot of fans have been calling for Auguste to be benched because of his poor defense throughout the year, despite what his offensive stat sheet may say sometimes

    • It has been really enjoyable having the ND and IU fans around this tournament. They have been, almost exclusively, fantastic at providing useful input on their own teams, realistic and fair observations of both sides, and some outside perspective on WSU.

Funny that didn't happen at all with the fans that have probably seen WSU play the most.

+1 I have really enjoyed both teams fans. Can tell why Indiana is right up there, or more, with Kansas, Kentucky, and North Carolina for basketball fandom.

        • Notre Dame guard Jerian Grant’s road to redemption went through Wichita

“My grandparents, they live about five blocks from the campus (at Wichita State),” Grant said. “So that was one of the places I went when I couldn’t play. I actually watched (WSU) play a couple of times on television, where they were getting right toward the end of conference play. It was good for me to be there, and I stayed for a week, week-and-a-half.

This is a good pt and one I meant to touch on above and somehow missed. I was chuckling while reading the comments about your guys starting with two fouls. When Auguste goes to the bench with 2 ticky tack fouls in the first few minutes, think of me/ND2010! It largely seems to be effort based like I mentioned above, but way to often the back line of our D just isn't very strong.

              • One interesting thing not in WSU's favor as much in this game....KU and IU are now a combined 16-19 away from home. ND is 14-3.

Including 5-1 against the rest of the Sweet 16 (@UNC,@Duke,@Louisville, @NC State, and Duke/UNC at the ACC tourney in North Carolina. Add in home wins over Duke/MSU and 7-1 total against the remaining field.) We are hoping that some of that helps offset your NCAA tournament experience advantage, but who knows. Brey's teams used to be traditionally much weaker away from the Joyce Center for reasons that I won't bore you with.

                    • Here is a very good, albeit long, preview of tomorrow night's game. The score prediction appears to be based simply on his hope that we'll be the luckier team in the "coin toss" tomorrow. Any thoughts or corrections from Shocker fans appreciated. It focuses a lot on Wichita State, but compares and contrasts the two teams in doing that, so I hope it's helpful in providing a closer look on ND too: http://www.onefootdown.com/2015/3/25...-wichita-state

                      • I can't lie here. I'm more nervous for this game than I was the KU game. I'm hoping it doesn't come down to the wire and that the Shocks can put it away, but I expect nothing but a nail biter!

We're playing with house money, enjoy the ride.

Hey! Shockernet went 13-1 against the rest of the Sweet 16 in complaining that they wouldn't schedule us.

                            • It is incumbent for my well being that the Shockers win this game (and continue winning). I simply do not know if I will be capable of coming to grips with the reality that Tekele Cotton will no longer be an active Shocker player whenever this season ends. I need more time to properly prepare.

Would love to schedule you guys. Kansas showed this year that it's not whether you win out of conference, it's who you schedule (30 pt loss to UK and then being ranked ahead of UK at number 1 RPI). Regardless of tomorrow's outcome- put us on the schedule besides that Orlando invitational and we'll play it just for funsies!
