  • Just got back from Omaha, what a trip! I was very blessed to be able to go and will remember it for the rest of my life. Some thoughts on the three days I spent there..

    - I was scared to death for the Indiana game all week, and all of the upsets on Thursday didn't help. And the game went exactly the way I didn't want it to: Indiana made threes like crazy and we couldn't make anything. Yet we somehow won the game. That's the sign of a strong team: a team that can win games where nothing seems to go right.

    - I'd be surprised if there was a single KU fan there that thought they would lose the game.

    - I bought a single ticket for the KU game and wasn't sure who would be around me. I ended up with Creighton fans to my left and below, and KU fans to my right and above. The Creighton fans were amazing and really nice, the ones below me were actively cheering for the Shockers, and the ones to the left tried to remain neutral but it was obvious they wanted us to win. Very nice people all around. There were probably about 15 WSU fans spread around my section, so it was cool to have a little bit of support (not that I needed it, I couldn't help but jump out of my seat every big play and I definitely don't have a voice left :) ).

    - On the other hand... it amazes me on ignorant some of these KU fans are. I say some, because I know they have a lot of fans that are nice people and know their stuff. The ones around me did not. Even during the starting introductions, they were laughing at our starters and wondering how little ole 6'4 Evan Wessel could possibly guard Perry Ellis, and how our center could only be 6'7. The game was absolutely justice.

    - I absolutely love our fans. I figured we were going to be outnumbered like crazy, but we weren't. Our fans travel. Not only that, but they were loud. The KU fans behind me commented several times wondering why their fan base wasn't standing the entire game like our fans were. We have something special here and I love it.

    - The lack of a pep rally before the Indiana game is pathetic. But, the pep rally for the KU game was absolutely awesome. Love how Coach Marshall is able to take some time out to talk to us. Also, President Bardo is simply the perfect fit for this school. Absolutely love his attitude.

    - I was scared to death when our posts got into foul trouble and I thought we were toast, but Bush came in and held down the fort. Teams take the personality of their coach. Marshall is a person who is very confident in his abilities and is up for any challenge. This is why, in the biggest games of the season, Zach Brown has come in and made some huge plays. It's the same reason that Bush can come in and play some solid defense and keeps things steady while Carter and Shaq are on the bench. These players come into the game with full confidence and aren't afraid of anyone. I remember a comment a few years ago from another MVC coach saying that when Wichita State steps on the court, they believe they can beat anyone, and that's why they're so dang good. His comment is 100% true.

    - The war chant at the end of the game was just surreal. Sounds like it was very audible on TV. Just perfect.

To sum it up, I love this team and this program. We're in an amazing spot right now. GO SHOX!

    • I watched KU in St. Louis last year versus Stanford. They had the better team but they stood
around too much and just did not play with intensity. Yesterday they had some players that
just didn't play with the same level of intensity as ours. There is no question in my mind that
our team's ability to collectively play angry with a big dose of MTXE is/was the difference in the
two teams. We don't match the 4/5 star level of a lot of teams but there are not any teams
that can match us in playing angry.

      • Today's office attire, smart casual; blue jeans, my WSU master's program t-shirt, a sports coat, and dress shoes. My assistant has his master's from KU and one of my department head's a Beaker undergrad & WSU master's degree. It will be a quite day basking in the glow of a Shocker victory.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

            • Awesome to beat KU but I'm so happy for the guys, I didn't want to see them go out at this point again after being set up against UK last year. So happy for them!!

And I wish I could tell Evan sorry for ever doubting you!! Its amazing how many loose balls he comes up with and creates extra possessions, then to get the points as well, just as awesome game for him. My wife had to run an errand and caught part of the KU radio broadcast, she said they were absolutely beside themselves when he hit a couple of his 3's.

My wife and I BUSTED UP at this. Bill was pissed and Gregg just grinned. PRICELESS.
I sent this to just about everyone I know. This short 10 second video sums up the entire game. You can pretty much skip reading this whole thread and watch this video and you know what happened all game long.

                    • Friendly reminder: ""Kansas Forward Perry Ellis was recruited by the Shocks but now is playing for the Hawks. "He told us we were the runner up, but you don't want to be the runner up," said Wichita State Head Coach Gregg Marshall.""

This year I guess Perry can be the runner-up cracking the Sweet 16.

Transfer down to WSU, my friend, and help us win a title next year. We love you down here...you are the best thing on that KU roster.

                      • I don't watch a lot of KU games, but it seemed like BS kept smiling even while his team was down, like he wasn't taking WSU seriously. There was even a timeout after we took the lead where he was smiling at his team and saying, "We're alright." It wasn't until the end of the game where I saw him get upset, and by then it was too late.

Is this a case of overlooking us, or is this his usual demeanor?

                        • A few of the many things I enjoyed last night:

                          1. ZB being about six feet behind the KU player and coming up with the loose ball.
                          2. Knowing that Darius Carter would get to make a sweet sixteen during his time at WSU.
                          3. The fact that HCGM called 1 (or maybe two timeouts) and that to avoid a five-second count while Self had burned through all of his with 6 minutes to play.
                          4. Learning of FVV calling the player's to a huddle before they talked to the coaches. From the Eagle: “Don’t give the game away,” he said. “Let’s not celebrate yet. I promise when we win, you can celebrate as much as you want.”

As much as I like Ellis and wish he was on another team I could root for, I enjoy the fact that during his 3 years at KU his team has made it as far in the tourney as WSU once and got knocked out sooner twice.

Ha...I will give you one later tonight. I'm ass deep in make up work and then need to get ahead before I bolt Wednesday afternoon.

I will say this....by the look in their eyes after we beat Indiana, most KU fans I witnessed Fri eve and Sat had a real bad feeling this was coming. Their worst nightmare was about to come true and their wasnt a damn thing they could do about it.

I noticed this too. I believe he was trying to instill confidence in his players and not appear panicked, meanwhile his blood pressure was probably off the charts as nearly everything he tried was getting shut down but a smothering, battle tested, and well prepared defense.
