  • A few notes from the weekend from my perspective, for what it's worth:

I was really surprised how tame the KU fans were....I think it was a combination of not running downhill all weekend, a lot of t-shirt bandwaggoners and being scared of losing.

Enjoyed some of the best seats of my life. Still, I sat next to a guy that read his Kindle during both the KU-NMSU and WSU-IU game...still don't get that.

My first time staying at the team hotel. It's so much fan being around the program and staying at the team hotel just makes that on steroids. You visit with Mike in the elevator, Eric in the lounge, maybe have a drink with Doug Elgin. And you see the players and get to tell them thanks. It's just all good.

Pep rally was a blast and I cannot tell you how many great, GREAT WSU fans from this board came up to me and said hi and visited with me. Seriously, you guys have no idea what that means to me. It's such a great brotherhood here. I would mention everyone, but I don't want to out anyone or forget anyone so just thank you to ALL of you. Made an incredible weekend that much more amazing.

Got row 1 tickets for the WSU-KU game. My family will never forget the experience. Had to endure sCUm fans telling me I had to sit because they couldn't see. Other than that and the KU fans on Friday (and at practice) it was all pretty good.

Our program is ridiculously amazing right now. Enjoy the ride.

Go see the doc stat; you've exceeded a 'four hour' erection for KU.

The pep rally was top notch. Coach Marshall and Dave Dahl deserve an A+ for their speeches.

The "Eat Mor Chickin-Hawk" (Chick-fil-AThemed) written on the paper plates and held up by a couple WSU fans was too freaking hilarious.

FVV made a couple of passes in the second after the use of the ball screen that were extraordinary. He still amazes me every time I see him play.

Really wish they would have allowed us to bring in our "No One Can Hustle Like Wessel" sign as it would have been fitting. The young man played his heart out. Not allowing signs bigger than a piece of paper in the arena is silly.

I had absolutely no bad experiences at any point with either the KU or Creighton fanbases. Everyone around us was fairly quiet and very polite especially considering we were clapping, standing up, and yelling throughout the entire game.

Great turnout of WSU fans. It is an amazing feeling to be a part of Shocker Nation.

I have no way of putting into words how special the experience was. Having the opportunity to watch Coach Marshall and the entire WSU squad put on that type of performance is something I'll never forget!
I had the pleasure of buying a single from this poster - good dude. I made the drive up from Dallas Saturday afternoon to Wichita/Derby, then drove up Sunday morning. I sat next to a couple of Creighton fans who were awesome, they were rooting for WSU. Pretty swarmed by KU fans, but they were cool - I was def the loudest in our section (solo I add) but we respected each other. I've seen some pretty cool things in my life (my 1st concert was Pink Floyd in '94), but this was #1. Thank you Cole, it was a pleasure meeting you & your family - and another thanks for holding onto the ticket, you rock! I'll never forget the electricity that building had walking in.

        • Someone explain to me the reason a foul was not called on VV or Perry Ellis.

Another no harm, no foul situation?

          Just wondering.

"But Bill, how could you lose for a third time to an MVC team in the tournament?"

To me, it was the look of utter disbelief, like he just couldn't comprehend that a bunch of lunch pail, blue collar, two star players just schooled his five stars. I think Fred said it best: "This is college. You ain't no draft pick yet."
At the 15 or 16 minute mark in the second half, the smile went away. Coach Self began to smell defeat.

To me, I thought it was a fine no call. FVV clearly looking at the basket and going up for a layup and extending his arms up, not out. Ellis appeared to be just holding his ground. The elbow to the nose was just unfortunate due mainly to the extreme height differential of the two players. That's how I saw it.

                  Season 3PT%
                  Wessel 36.5
                  Oubre 35.8

Guess he should have spent a little more time awake in film session.

                    • At least Dakich admitted how wrong he was:

I said on ESPN "be careful what you wish for" with regard to Wichita State's desire to face Kansas. Turns out America found out, and now understands why Kansas has been ducking Wichita all these years -- the Jayhawks aren't as good.

Dan Dakich says he was all wrong about Wichita State, and that the committee was 100 percent right about UCLA. He also notes two more teams that can beat Kentucky -- bringing the list to five.

                        Entering Sunday:
Wessel's Season Avg - 34% from 3, less than 1 made 3 pointer per game
                        Wessel on Sunday - 67% from 3, 4 made 3's

Oubre's shooting percentage is irrelevant, and his quote is both honest and accurate. If anything, watching film would convince the viewer just how unlikely Wessel's performance was.

Let's celebrate what Wessel did (step up in a big moment) instead of making up criticisms of others that just don't make any sense.

I don't think a 35 percent three-point shooter making four threes is that uncommon. 35-40 % from three seems to be pretty solid for college players. I mean I get that it was a career day... no kidding. But it didn't shock me too much.. and if you have scouted WSU... you would know he CAN knock down the three.

                            • The truth is, Wessel was born and bred to play KU. His grandfather played for the Shox. Then his father played for the Shox' football team. When Wessel was born, there was a special ceremony where instead of circumcising him, they put some black and yellow booties on his feet and then the WSU chaplain began muttering stories in ancient Aramaic about how one day he will play against -- and be a pivotal key in beating the snot out of -- the Jayhawks. They just weren't sure if the Antishock would appear and intervene.

Little known fact: While the chaplain was reading Evan's WSU birth rites, the doctor's head (he was a KU graduate) began spinning around and he projectile vomited all over his own degree hanging on the wall, a la The Exorcist. The doctor tried to fend off the unintended exorcism by starting to chant "Roooock chaaaaa ..." but no words would come out.

And it is said on this very day that John Kresse pulled Gregg Marshall aside and said, "I had a vision last night. There was a gifted child born of Herculean might this day, you must seek him out! In my vision he was a bringer of light and topples a great dark shadow that looms over you. After the shadow resides, you will continue on to face and potentially defeat the Great of Greats!"

Marshall replied, "but how will I know where to find him? What team? When?!"

And Kresse only replied, "You must ... you must ... coach where you are loved. Now excuse me, I have to use the restroom."
