But like I said, this is my last post in this thread. I've made more enemies than converts, so I'll stop while I'm not significantly behind.Originally posted by Kung Wu View PostI appreciate your perspective and tend to agree with it. I think WSU is about to break out of the commuter school rep big time with the new living quarters and on campus lifestyle changes that Bardo is going full throttle on. In the meantime we need to be patient and love every second of what Marshall is doing for our fine school.
And by the way, back in @WstateU:'s day there were streakers and hippies ... so they weren't really better, just nuder and didn't bathe as much.
I liked this discussion (and the generally pleasant level of decorum) and thought that both sides have valid points.
@Kung Wu:'s statement may prove to be right (at least the first 3 sentences). Both Bardo's and Marshall's continued presence and direction may make this kind topic disappear.

I have to admit that I did not attend Shocker games while I was a student (1968-72) at Wichita State. I was paying my own way and working 40+ hours per week at a minimum wage job. Around $2.00 per hour back then. Got married in 1971 after being engaged for a year and a half and bought my first house. Games on the radio (when I wasn't working) were the closest I got. I don't remember that I was all that unusual back then. Have no idea what the student section was like in those days. Definitely a commuter school but I graduated with a degree in Accounting and zero student debt and I'm grateful that WSU allowed me that opportunity. Otherwise, I probably would not have gone to college. Not sure I even new any other students that were not commuters but us po' boys kind of hung together.
I think the University has come a long way since those days and the future looks about as bright as it ever has right now. My guess is the student section today is 10 times more impressive than it was in my day (as is the campus in general).Last edited by 1972Shocker; December 10, 2014, 08:08 PM.

Give me screenshots from games at 50 programs (@shoxlax, name 75 since you said it's an understatement) that don't have empty seats in their student section over Thanksgiving break.
If you're able to do that, address the second portion of my argument which is that we are historically a commuter campus. Show me a single other commuter campus that has similar student support at games.
Lay off the students. College basketball is about the students. When you forget that, you're just watching a worse version of the NBA. If it's purely about enjoying watching athletes in their prime playing basketball, watch the NBA. I stand by my point that we have a good student fanbase and it is getting better.

Everybody is missing the point-use tickets you take, students or not. Don't be a jackass and inconsiderate *****. Simple as that.

The bad news is that there are still far too many students apprenticing to be corporate fat cats who don't use their seats either. Wufan has a good question: if the student seats are truly GA, there ought to be a way for people who will actually show up and use them to access to them.
