Well they're at it again (sorry in advance for the rant). My wife and parents went to Emerson Biggins West to watch the Shox play tonight. We've gone there a few times to watch the games this year and generally had a good experience. Tonight was quite different. My wife called the bar at 5:30 to confirm that they would be playing the sound for the WSU game and they said they would (you can see where this is going). She then arrived at the bar over an hour before tipoff to get a prime spot in front of one of the big screens. As expected, they were playing the KU vs WVU game prior to the start of our game. About 20 minutes before our game we again asked our waitress if they would be playing the WSU game sound and they said they would. And sure enough, about 5 minutes before our game they actually started playing the WSU sound! But then, inexplicably, they switched back over to the KU game right as ours was starting!
We called over the waitress and then the manager. They explained that it was a predominantly KU crowd (not actually true) and thus would be playing the sound for that game. They offered to move us over to the other room where they were playing the WSU sound. By this point, there were no spots near the big screens and, while the WSU sound was on, it was virtually inaudible and covered up by the sound of the KU game. I walked around and there was maybe one table that could have heard the WSU game.
The manager never apologized and was very aggressive. I'll admit that our group was pretty heated up and could have approached the situation more delicately, but the managers response was completely inappropriate. When I suggested that we wouldn't be paying for our food, she was floored and completely rude. I understand it's a petty request, but we wouldn't have otherwise gone to Emersons without confirmation that they'd be featuring the WSU game. So we felt completely duped and missed a good chunk of the game.
Apologies for turning Shockernet into my own pity party, but I just hate to see local establishments disrespect our local team and fans. Please take this into consideration when choosing where to watch the games.
