The athletic department is probably be too busy preparing for Rockin' the Roundhouse (a $100 a ticket event) that is on Saturday the 18th which also means a Friday evening event may not have given them enough time to set up Saturday's "Shocker Shindig".

Rockin' the Roundhouse has no affiliation with the athletic department anymore. It used to be a joint fundraiser for the Alumni Association and the Athletic Department. 3-4 years ago, the AD pulled out of Rockin' the Roundhouse, they do their own auction the Marshall Auction. RnR is strictly an Alumni Association only event. The staff at the AA put on the entire event with minimal help from the AD, other than facilities workers that help with the big set up things like audio/video.

The AD makes the AA rent the arena, which anyone can do. If we had enough money ShockerNet could rent out Koch. So scheduling Shocker Madness AROUND RnR is sort of a joke because the AD could set Shocker Madness when they wanted and tell the Alumni Association that weekend is off limits.

I'm going speculate a bit here, but I wonder if part of the reason they do it on a Thursday is because a recruit isn't likely to be on campus. It seems most official visits occur on the weekends, and perhaps because the event always seems to have a disappointing turnout, it was leaving a negative impression on recruits.

This!! I have just a little feeling that if HCGM wanted this to be a big event, it would be. If he didn't want it to be on a Thursday, it wouldn't. He also "reduced" the fan experience from 2 exhibition games to 1, that's assuming your fan experience has not been up to snuff the last few years. So, if one has complaints............keep sending them to the AD as I don't want Marshall bothered by this.

Yes, please don't anybody screw up this first opportunity to see the 2014-15 Shockers

Come on people, this is obvious -- at least to me and @SHOCKvalue. Thursday night is Family Night at Hometown Buffet. The marketing department knows the way to maximize the West-side traffic is to run it on a night that everyone out West is going to be out and about that night anyway. And most of the East-siders have sobered up by Thursday from their regular gala's held each weekend -- so it's the perfect time to maximize the East side traffic too, before they begin their weekend of soirées and caviar each Friday afternoon, lasting through noon cocktails at Sunday brunch.

Oh nothing at all. Just the continuation of a west side versus east side dialog on SN that started long ago. It is all in jest - at least nowadays, it was a spirited debate a couple of years ago.

Well and then there's the fact that shade is a scarce commodity on the west side. Kind of have to love the sun when trees are outflanked in the height department by guttering downspouts.
