Marshall to Stay at Wichita State

I was pretty disgusted by the jenn bates column yesterday. So much so that I won't repost it here. I hope she finds her way to the next stepping stone soon if she's going to continue to write crap like that. We get enough of the downtrodden, mid major, KU is God attitude from Lutz, Parsons, etc.

The only thing mid major about WSU is the media covering it. With the big exception being Paul Suellentrop. He is great.

I wish the ones paid to give their opinion would keep it to themselves.

I couldn't agree more. I think the most off-putting part was her insistence that WSU is a stepping stone job and that anyone that doesn't see that is an idiot. The discussion has been resurrected many times on this board but the landscape of college basketball is changing. If you can be a top paid coach in division 1 without the pressures that come along with the high profile BCS schools then why wouldn't you? As long as your chances of getting to the tourney and winning aren't inhibited by your situation then why chase something else? I'm convinced that Bruce Weber saw success at SIU, and is seeing success at K-State, but floundered at Illinois because he was expected to recruit a certain type of player that didn't fit his coaching style. There are a ton of factors that go into one's decision on coaching jobs and many examples of guys breaking the mold such as Few, Smart, Stevens, Marshall etc. Maybe Marshall will leave at some point but to imply that we should all be relieved because we have him for "at least one more year" is ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with truly believing that he can, and possibly will, continue to flourish here for many years to come.

I wonder if Jenn thinks of KWCH as a mid-major station and is eager to move past "this level." Maybe if she gets to be as good at her job as Cindy Klose is at hers, she'll get a chance. (Funny; Cindy moved here FROM Atlanta. How is that possible -- doesn't she know how these things work?)

I read that as though she got a bunch of negative replies to the Marshall quote that she tweeted out yesterday and then she really over reacted. She should know better than to take anything that anyone says on twitter seriously. That place is a cesspool of humanity. And yes, that blog post was more than a little bit insulting.
