I don't know if this is Kilgore or not, but I really do get tired of fans of other teams on this board. So precious few understand how to carry themselves on someone elses board or to even realize that this board doesn't exist to show respect for their team.

Marshall to Stay at Wichita State

The reality is one of these days a UK, Duke, UNC, OSU, MSU, or KU is going to come knocking on Marshalls door. WSU is not a stepping stone job. That is just idiotic, but WSU isn't on the same level as any of those teams I mentioned either. WSU has a ceiling when it comes to money. I think Marshall will bare minimum be a shocker till FVV graduates, but after that I'm skeptical how long he will be in Wichita. I think he loves it here, but it is hard to turn down some of the most storied programs in the history of the sport. Could you imagine Marshall being at a Duke where he could basically get any recruit he desires... That would be scary as hell! If I was sexton I would be giving everything Marshall wants. Also I would be looking at moving to a bigger conference. Taking WSU out of a "mid-major" conference and putting them in a "major" conference would be one less thing that could draw coach away. No matter what he will always have a place in our hearts!Last edited by Jhook89; April 29, 2014, 04:21 PM.

Got it. KU is Mid Major.
Maybe the ladder isn't as linear as some people would like to think. Not everyone places the same value on the same things.

To say Marshall met with MU but that the sides couldn't reach an agreement is pretty funny.
You could make that statement if nothing more than a 5 minute phone call happened. Just saying.
One party grasping at what they think is an opportunity and having that person hear them out before politely declining is not the same thing as two equally interested parties having issues that lead to an agreement not being reached.
They call Marshall. Marshall did not initiate contact. Marshall meets with them. They ask him his terms. He says 3 million+ to even consider. They spit out their beverage and say "you're kidding." He says "nope, and even then I'd still have to think for a while about it because you can only eat so many burgers." They counter offer 2 to 2.5ish and he refers them to his previous interviews referencing his good life in Wichita and his outlook going into next year as he says "good luck in the rest of your search."

Perhaps ONE of the many reasons Marhsall is still at Wichita State is that something is being done regarding conference affiliation, even if it is behind the scenes and at a slower pace then us fans would like.
OTOH, maybe nothing is going on. I wish I knew. But you can bet Coach Marshall knows what is happening.

Marshall was never going to leave for Mizzou. I wasn't ever worried about that happening. It doesn't fit what he wants and desires. I'm not going to lie though, earlier in the season when there was talk about Brown getting fired at Texas if he didn't have a good season worried me. That is a place I could see appealing to Marshall. Good thing Texas had a good year and that job didn't open up!

I came on here yesterday to get a feel for whether the people on this board were worried about your coach leaving for MU. It wasn't just that you weren't worried (turns out no need for worry. Marshall is still at WSU), it was that many refused to believe that he had met or ever would meet with officials from MU about the job. Marshall and MU didn't reach an agreement. That's fine. Good luck and best wishes to WSU. But all of you people who went on and on about how the Marshall to MU rumor was created out of thin air and pure Missouri fantasy were dead wrong. The rumor wasn't created out of thin air and Missouri fantasy. It was created out of a now publicly acknowledged meeting between Marshall and Alden where the two discussed whether they could reach an agreement to bring your coach to MU. That's a fact. Any of you who denied this turned out to be dead wrong. Now, peace out. I've got to go back to my own board and read all of that drivel...which is not so different than some of the bellyaching drivel I read here.
That said, I also think a coach would have to be pretty unreasonable not to hear someone out, especially if that someone started the conversation with a million-dollar raise. Still, I just don't think Mizzou gives coach much more than he has at WSU without also incurring a corresponding cost. The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

So I did a thing.
I sent a tweet to Ms. Bates comparing WSU's program now to Florida's in 2005 (the year before they won the first national title). The comparisons are uncanny. They both came from really dark times (Florida's first time making the NCAA tournament was 1987), got rebuilt through one coach (Turgeon for us, Kruger for them), then handed off to another coach that took the program to the next level. Both had precisely 2 Final Four appearances before their first national title (to be only a little presumptuous).
She didn't like that, and when I asked her why she didn't think WSU could follow Florida's recipe, she replied:
"It's a different world now man."
I was actually dumbstruck by her attempt to "win" the argument through being vague and arbitrary. After several minutes of thinking, the only response I thought that was appropriate was:
"No, no it isn't."
See? I can be vague and self-affirming too.
Wow. I lost a LOT of respect for her today. I wonder if her lease is almost up at her apartment. Maybe there's a job she's angling for in Kansas City.
