I didn't see too much of a problem with the Jenn Bates post.

I think some of you read more into "stepping stone" then what was there.

If Billy Donovan takes an NBA job, is Florida a "stepping stone"?

If Frank Haith takes the Tulsa job, is Mizzou a "stepping stone"?

Did some trolls get you worried?

I went to a funeral yesterday, the niece of the guest of honor gave a very moving soliloquy regarding her memories of her uncle. I had not seen her since 8th grade. Damn, she was cute back then. Yesterday, I could see her peeking out from all sides of the podium.

Come on guys, as much as Jenn bugs the hell out of me for other reasons, her blog has some truth to it. I respect HCGM doing the "due diligence" on other jobs he owes it to himself and his family. I hope that he continues to do such a great job at WSU that he makes it hard to accept another job, but situations change, AD leaves or life events happen that push a coach to leave. We need "to take a breath", this isn't like our SO going out and looking to upgrade us.

Maybe it is time for Jenn Bates to move on. Most of the the national media pundits seem to have a higher opinion of the WSU coaching job then her.

If we are going to keep Coach Marshall long-term we may very well have find a stronger conference affiliation IF possible. Maybe we can grab the other 9 Valley teams by he scruff of the neck and pull them all up a notch or too, but I'm not convinced that will happen. The AAC would be my preference but perhaps that's a long shot. And even that would not insure that Coach Marshall doesn't make one more move for a huge payday before he ends his coaching career.

This is my request of Wichita State basketball fans right now: just breathe, people!

Gregg Marshall isn't going to Missouri and he isn't leaving Wichita State this season. Isn't that good enough for you right now? You cannot be naive enough to believe that Marshall will stay in Wichita forever. Wichita State is not a job you stay in forever. It's a stepping stone, like it or not, and Marshall is almost on his final stone. But that's ok! He's taken this program to amazing heights on such a fun ride so relax and enjoy it!

After I reported what Coach Marshall texted to me earlier this afternoon people were immediately picking apart the statement and trying to read into it. Here's some advice: don't do that.

Gregg is staying this year and that's all you really need to know. I mean, seriously, isn't that enough?

Is there more to the story? Absolutely! Is there more to the story that's more relevant than "Gregg Marshall isn't leaving Wichita State this year"? No. Any other information is superfluous. He's staying. End of story.

Maybe that sounds like bad or lazy journalism and you can believe that if you will. I do want to know the whole story but it's not eating at me because it's not of the utmost importance.

If Marshall had broken a law then yes, I absolutely would be fighting non-stop to find new details. But Marshall isn't leaving and really isn't that all we wanted to hear?

When Gene Stephenson was fired by Wichita State I stood outside of his office when Eric Sexton was inside talking to him. I heard everything and I mean everything. However, I didn't report even a fraction of what I heard because it wasn't necessary but rather it was inflammatory.

Of course Gregg talked to Missouri! If a better job came open in your field of work that was potentially offering you millions more than you were currently making I bet you'd consider that job as well!

The overwhelming sentiment among me and my fellow journalists, local and national, is that Marshall's heart just wasn't in Columbia. Gregg is a meticulous decision-maker and he would never jump at a job just because of the name. Gregg, in my opinion, feels he's earned the right to be wooed. He wants to be romanced in a way by a school and you know what, you're darn right he's earned that.

So for now, fans in Wichita, please just breathe. Please take a second to understand that Gregg is going to be here at least another year and right now that's icing on the cake.
that's some grade A elitist crap right there.

Edit: it's written very defensively. She is defending her beliefs, and her belief is that SEC>WSU. Her feelings were hurt when Marshall turned down an SEC job to stay at WSU, especially when they offered $1 million more. That hurt her because Florida is SEC, and obviously she loves her Alma Mater. Marshall, in her mind, just slighted her because she believes FU is better than WSU, and the SEC as a whole is better than WSU, and Marshall thinks otherwise.

Question: If you take a job at a stepping stone program, stay a few years, receive offers from UCLA and MIZZOU but decline them while referencing your private jet and your 7 figures and your popularity... Not to mention your quality players, IS IT REALLY A STEPPING STONE?

I mean if you are writing an article about the coach NOT taking the MU job while also describing WSU as a stepping stone, I am fascinated a little bit at the math there. :)

She's still good looking though. That is her job right?

There is nothing wrong with Marshall looking but Bates framed it in such a way that people were crazy to think that WSU was a destination and that we are so lucky that he's here for another year. And yet she's one of those that rails on shocker fan for having an enferiority complex when it comes to KU. Gee Jenn, I wonder why that is?

I have little doubt that Jenn looks at her current job as a stepping stone. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with that. I'm sure she would love to get back to Florida someday. Between that mindset and a BCS superiority that is no doubt ingrained in her it is understandable that she would look at WSU in this way. She is certainly entitled to her opinion. The important thing is not how Jenn Bates or anyone else for that matter views 3G's job at Wichita State but how Gregg and Lynn Marshall view his job at Wichita State and their lives in Wichita, Kansas. Everything else is just noise.

Over the last 15 years, Mizzou has been a stepping stone to (1) unemployment/D-League coaching, (2) Arkansas (lol), and (3) Tulsa (bigger lol).

I guess a person could argue every job in college hoops is a stepping stone except for maybe 4 or 5 schools. However, referring to us that way while acting like Mizzou is a cut above is retarded.

I was breathing fine through all that Mizzo fan talk. That's all it was. They never had a chance for Marshall. No need for a deep breath.

if you look at what Marshall is making and what he can make in bonuses he is making top 25 money ($1,800,000) and has the ability with performance to be in the top 10 in the country (~$2,600,000). If he leaves Wichita it will be because of pride and ego, not because money.
