Baseball: Won, didn't make the Big XII tournament championship game and now faces Wichita State in the Regional. We'll see what happens.

Next year projections: Mid pack in football, mid pack in basketbal.

KState equals EMAW disappointment year-in and year-out.
No, not partially right, completely right. They won a Big XII championship trophy in baseball, basketball and football. That is dang impressive regardless of their postseason success.

Monster is right to question whether college baseball is a major sport anywhere in Kansas except Wichita, and we're starting to wonder ourselves. But it certainly is a major sport in Austin, where the fans regard their teams as God's gift to athletics, and I'm betting that anyone there would gladly trade their results this past season for K-State's. Actually, even the snobs in Lawrence -- if they could just clear away the chicken feathers long enough to stop being blinded by them -- would make that same trade if they had any sense.

This was a good year for the Kitties. (Who in the Big 12 minus did better?) But now it's time for the Shocks to try to contribute to some more of that post-season disappointment.

How did a thread intended to discuss how much mileage WSU could get out of the Run to the Final 4 turn into a KSU bash fest? Veriitas is a KU homer, so no big surprise, but why do others back him? Veritas displays the KU arrogance as well as anyone. Just read his posts. Meanwhile, KSU has 3 men's Big 12 trophies for this year. KU didn't win a single B12 football game, tied with KSU for bball, and didn't make the baseball tourney.

If a college sports fan looks at KSU with an impartial view, you will see what success, like the Shocks had can lead to. Look at the profitability of the KSU athletics department; look at the overall success of KSU in all sports; look at the facilities that have been built or are under construction; look at how the "brand" has grown. Yep, Veritas and Shockerfever, KSU athletics are circling the toilet. Now, can we stick to the topic of this thread?

If averaging 4500 per game is the standard to determine whether a sport is major or not, then baseball has NEVER been a major sport at WSU. The Shockers have only averaged 4000 or more twice (2007 and 2008). In 2007, the peak year for WSU baseball attendance, the Shox averaged 4257 (helped by 8000+ crowds in the super regional games and just under 8000 in a couple of home regional games). In 2008 (the only other year WSU has averaged 4000 or more) the average for all home games was 4187.

Both of those years were helped greatly by huge post season crowds. If you use regular season attendance only, WSU has never averaged over 4,000. For example, the 2007 average drops to 3,775 in regular season games only (in 2008 it drops to 3887 for regular season games).

Having said all of that, I do think of WSU baseball as a major sport. I just don't think averaging 4500 a game is the standard you should use.

If it makes you feel better, I love Bill Snyder and root for KS football. But let's keep it real here, yeah you got a co-championship in basketball, but KU owned you so that really tarnishes that luster. I will be rooting for the Cats in football however.

The way KSU won the b12 in basketball reminds me a little of how the Redbirds won the mvc in baseball this year :)

You should know. You intentionally derailed the thread with the 6th post.

The purple troll doesn't like where the thread is going, so he wants it stopped. He shouldn't start something he can't finish.

In which sport are you comparing the success of the Shockers to that of KSU? KSU hasn't been to the Final Four in over half a century; has KSU ever made it to a Super Regional?

I guess you win the football comparison.

If you're pointing out what KSU should mean to an upcoming university, then yes, you are a model. For the value of being in a large conference where you can leach off of the success of other programs without really contributing anything in terms of any sport for decades.

Not sure where that came from. Point being that in both cases, there was a huge asterisk by the title won by KSU and Ill St...KU swept KSU completely and WSU took the auto bid including a 3-1 record against the Redbird "champs"

I was completely agreeing with KC and plugging the shocks at the same time

Don't group me in with all the current trolling please :)

I think he misquoted you. That was definitely aimed at shockkansas.
