There should never be personal insults in a discussion. Once the talk goes from facts and points to calling someone a names I'm going to have a problem with it. Because that means the discussion has deteriorated.

I understand the rage that flows through people on here and on certain topics, but there is something to be said about remaining classy and respectful.

This is a friendly warning to all. Don't get a timeout from the forum for 24 hours, just 5 hours before tip off of the Sweet 16.

      Strange.

The discussion "deteriorated" the second the ChiKUn fans joined in - as it should. Considering the leadership felt it necessary to publicly scold adults on behalf of GayHack fans, I will discontinue my posting until later. I'm going to go sit in the corner now... *sniffle*

U.S. News ranks KU as a top 100 university while they have WSU in their second tier (which means did not rank in their top 500). We all know that these rankings are skewed but your average everyday high school kid is simply going to walk down to their local Barnes and Noble and pick up a copy of the latest U.S. News magazine and simply look at the numbers. KU is also a member of the Association of American Universities which if you go to AAU.edu will see that it is made up of the top 62 leading research universities in the U.S. and Canada. I don't know how this organization determines how the top 62 are selected, but looking at that list there are some major educational players among it.

Unfortunately, fair or unfair and how hard we question the validity of being ranked in a certain position, the number that is beside a university in some magazine or internet site is a huge influence on one's perception of how prestigious a university is. Your average person is going to see just a number and believe that number to be gospel. Your average person is not going to take the time to really get in depth on how well a particular school educates its students.

WSU would no doubt be higher on these rankings had it not been the constant subversive meddling by KU to keep WSU from improving itself.
This is true. Wichita State has a fine business school, and it very well may be the best in the state, but unless a publication like US News knows about it, it just doesn't exist nationally unless there's a direct alumni connection.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

All logical or illogical reasons why the teams have not been playing in the past...there is absolutely NO reason they should not be on each other's schedules now (K-State included). Any schools not wanting to play are showing their true inner-selfs and lack of confidence in their own programs.

That being said, it is not necesary for WSU to play either...we can just step over their bodies on the way to the top. GO SHOCKS!

I just think when two schools want to play each other they should. If both don't then no one should try and make them. WSU wouldn't appreciate it one bit if some state legislator out of Kansas City wanted to pass a law that WSU had to play UMKC every year.

                  This is a slaughter.

                    Slaughter? What does that mean?

Secondly, if you went to KU, they did a poor job of educating you in the American Government system. In our constitutional system of federalism where there is shared power of the central government and each of the 50 states, where our tax payers have nothing to do with the higher education system in Missouri (and vice versa), in what world do you live in that the state of Missouri would be able to force WSU to play UMKC (or vice versa)?

It was 44 to 22 at the time.

Wait KU is to WSU as WSU is to UMKC?

                        Thanks...

I didn't say they should be made to play. Please don't put those words in my mouth.

Everybody knows it would be good for the state for a series between OUR DIVISION ONE UNIVERSITIES. Certain people don't want to. Yes, I believe the coaches know they should play, they just don't want to...because?

WSU does NOT need to play the other 2 - the ony ones being hurt are the fans of the state (please listen to interview with Mitch on the possibilities).

This is like beating a dead horse. Have a nice day.

                            • There's a pretty good chance KU bows out tomorrow. Just saying.

                              There's something to think about.

There are many KU graduates though, that are Shocker fans too and get a bit embarrassed by the attitudes of some of their brethren to WSU.

FWIW, my oldest son is a sophomore at KU and is proudly wearing Shocker stuff today. He said he saw several others on KU's campus today wearing Shocker gear.

He chose KU over WSU primarily b/c he had a bunch of friends going to KU and none to WSU. I can assure you that he has none of the KU holier-than-though attitude.

He works at the pizza joint in the Oread Hotel and is wearing his WSU stuff to work. I'd like to get a picture of that.
This post is spot-on, and kudos to your son.

As a bit of background, I am a native Wichitan, attended WSU for two years, basically my entire family (i.e. four out of six people) graduated from WSU, my fiance graduated from WSU, but I am a KU alum. I grew up a Shocker fan, hating KU, but the same thing that happened with your son happened to me--all of my friends either matriculated out of high school to KU or transferred, so I went along for the ride. Another reason I went to KU was because of the football gamedays, as petty a reason as that may seem to many of you. I still love both schools, and in fact my friends were giving me ish tonight when I responded to a hypothetical KU-WSU NCG matchup by saying that I would be torn (edited to add: though all of us graduated from KU (except my fiance, who is getting her masters from KU), we all had WSU gear on and were pulling for the Shockers).

The reason I mention the preceding is to prove that there are KU fans that *do* like (even love) the Shockers and WSU. We are not all bad, and we are not all arrogant. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of arrogant KU fans that are total pricks, but I have found that most of this ilk are either JoCo-bred or out-of-staters who equate KU with Harvard, a completely absurd notion (as if I need to tell you folks that). Let me just say this: if you go by what is said on phog.net, you might think that all Jayhawks are classless, clueless snobs. But please also note that there are plenty of people on that very same website who respect WSU (both the bball team and the university) and think the snobs are nothing more than insecure losers with nothing better to do than try to pathetically lord over a brother school because of some ridiculous God complex. In short, the arrogant asses frequently on display at phog.net are NOT the majority of KU fans, and I would be willing to bet that if you polled the haters at phog.net, many of them likely did not even attend KU, and I would further wager that most of them likely could not name KU's starting QB heading into the 2013 campaign (you'll find that there is a huge difference (and great animosity) between real KU fans and basketball-only KU fans, who are worse scum than Missouri Tigers in my book).

I rarely post here because I usually don't have much to add, but this topic (yes, it is beaten to death) always interests me, and I felt compelled to comment. For the diehard KU haters, I can't say much other than to tell you that there are plenty of KU alumni who do not reciprocate the hate and who truly wish the best for Wichita State University, in all regards. I will be yelling like a madman for WSU to beat Ohio State on Saturday, just as hard as I will be yelling for KU to beat Michigan tomorrow. Go Shocks, and Rock Chalk Jayhawk.
